📘 New resource: Children at the Centre https://daphne.childhub.org/en/child-protection-online-library/children-centre-handbook-child-participation-practices-violence-prevention-projects-across-europe
"Children already understand violence. What they often lack isn't knowledge. It's power. And adults who are willing to listen in the ways children actually communicate."
Children at the Centre documents how 48 civil society organisations across 9 countries 🇧🇬🇬🇷🇭🇺🇮🇪🇵🇹🇷🇴🇷🇸🇪🇸🇺🇦 are putting children at the centre of violence prevention - as co-designers, not just recipients.
Children co-facilitating workshops, scripting and voicing their own audio fairy tales, shaping training programmes, delivering peer education on online safety. The handbook brings together the approaches and lessons of each 48 Daphne-CHILD project, tagged by participation method, type of violence, age group, and setting.
A practical resource for practitioners, policymakers, and funders.

WEBINAR: Online child abuse in Central Europe: What young people’s experiences reveal in the V4 region, new research findings

📅 Time: 16th June 2026, 14:00–15:00 CET
Online: https://ow.ly/NTlq50Z46Nb

Some topics are hard to face. This is one of them 💔

Online child abuse across Central Europe is still largely unseen - not because it’s rare, but because it’s underreported and misunderstood.

Through the Seeing the Unseen project, we listened to young people in Hungary, Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. What they shared is clear: we need to pay attention, and act.

📊 This research explores how widespread online abuse is, who is most at risk, and why many young people never seek help.

📅 Join us on 16 June, 14:00–15:00 CET to unpack the findings with experts from Hintalovon Gyermekjogi Alapítvány Child Rights Foundation and the research team:

⚖️ Domininka Rácz – lawyer, Hintalovon
🔬 Karolina Balogh – researcher at Hintalovon
📊 Márton Schlanger – senior researcher & political analyst Republikon Institute

🎙️ Host:
💬 Réka Molnár – communication specialist at Hintalovon

For people forced to leave their homes and start over in a new country, learning the local language is often a key step towards integration.

Through the RIF4UA project implemented by Terre des hommes, Ukrainian refugees in Hungary can access Hungarian language courses that support their social and labour market integration. In our latest interview, Liudmilla shares her experience of learning Hungarian and adapting to life in Hungary, while her teacher, Krisztián, reflects on the challenges and achievements of supporting Ukrainian learners.

Their stories highlight how language learning can help build confidence, create connections, and foster a sense of belonging in a new country.

On 26 May, the Terre des hommes team participated in the job fair organized by IOM Hungary/ IOM Magyarország, which aimed to support the labour market integration of third-country nationals.

The event provided an opportunity to present the services available under the RIF4UA project, which supports the integration of refugees from Ukraine in Hungary.

Our services include:
🔹 Individual and group employment counselling in cooperation with the Employment Department of the Budapest Capital Government Office,
🔹 Social and digital skills development courses,
🔹 Hungarian language classes,
🔹 Support with everyday administrative matters provided by our social worker.

📌 Important: Individual case management provided by our social worker will remain available for one more month.

We would like to thank IOM Hungary for organizing the event, as well as everyone who visited our stand and showed interest in our services.

On May 22, young people took centre stage within the framework of the EmpowerED project.

During our roundtable discussion, we spoke with five inspiring young people who are active in their communities about the importance of participation and what they need in order to truly have their voices heard and become actively involved in community processes.

In the afternoon workshop, we continued reflecting on how to strengthen and sustain youth participation. We were happy to welcome colleagues from several organisations, as well as our project partners: Abacusan Studio, Konkáv, and AKE Debrecen.

Supported by the Villum Foundation, the EmpowerED project aims to support vulnerable children and young people aged 12–24 in developing their social and digital skills, helping them complete their studies, successfully enter the labour market, and become active, engaged citizens.

What if children could be part of the solution to the mental health crisis affecting their peers?

The "I Support My Friends" (ISMF) methodology, a peer-to-peer psychological first aid approach for children and adolescents, does exactly that. Developed by UNICEF, Save the Children, WHO, and the MHPSS Collaborative, ISMF equips young people with simple, safe tools to recognise and respond to distress using three principles: Look – Listen – Link.

As part of the EU-funded Unity in Care project, Terre des hommes in Europe and Nisma për Ndryshim Shoqëror, ARSIS, have contextualised and implemented ISMF in Albania, Greece, Kosovo, and Romania — adapting it to local languages and cultural realities, with direct input from children and professionals in each country.

In our second webinar in the series, practitioners from all four countries will share good practices, lessons learned, and challenges from implementation, including how safeguarding, coaching, and mentoring were embedded throughout.
