What happens when creativity is placed at the heart of learning?

Culture and arts education fosters empathy, dialogue and understanding. It also helps learners develop essential skills such as imagination, critical thinking, resilience, confidence and collaboration, while strengthening social cohesion and preserving cultural diversity.

From 25–31 May 2026, the first UNESCO Culture and Arts Education Week will take place under the theme “Culture and arts education for lasting peace.”

UNESCO’s Implementation Guidance for the Framework for Culture and Arts Education translates global commitments into practical action. With recommendations, guiding questions and examples from 52 countries, it supports policymakers, educators and cultural actors in integrating culture and the arts across formal, non-formal and informal learning.

As UNESCO calls on schools, cultural institutions, artists, youth and communities worldwide to take part, this week is a reminder that creativity is not only a universal language; it is also a powerful force for building peace.
