A mother’s love can come in many forms 🦧

After being rescued, Kayla now grows and learns alongside the incredible surrogate mothers at the BOS Foundation rehabilitation centre. In the wild, a young orangutan would spend years beside its mother learning everything needed to survive.

For orangutans who no longer have their mothers, these surrogate mothers step in to nurture, protect, and teach essential forest skills from climbing and exploring to slowly building confidence and independence.

This year, BOS Foundation is celebrating another meaningful milestone. It’s a special moment for all of us, because we continue this journey together with hope and commitment to protect and rehabilitate Bornean orangutans and their natural habitat. 🦧🌳

Keep supporting us and make your special moments even more meaningful through our orangutan adoption program. 🦧🦧

For every 3-month adoption package, not only will you become an adoptive parent, but we will also plant a tree in your name as a real contribution to preserving Indonesia’s forests. 🦧🌳

How does a baby orangutan learn to survive in the wild?

Along the Joloi River in Batikap Protection Forest, our team met Sisi and her infant, Sijalu. From clinging to her mother’s arms to tasting forest fruits, every step is a lesson in survival.

This is more than a glimpse, it’s a testament to maternal care and a reminder that thriving forests are the lifeline for the next generation of orangutans.

CAN A TOY REPLACE A RESCUED ORANGUTAN'S MOTHER? 🧸🦧

For baby orangutans who have lost their mothers, even a simple plush toy can bring comfort in their most fragile moments. It offers warmth and security — but it’s only the first step in a much longer journey of healing, learning, and returning to the wild.

This year, BOS Foundation celebrates 35 years of journey. Since 1991 we have rescued, rehabilitated, and returned orangutans to the wild, while protecting forests and empowering communities.

It is not only about the passage of time, but about thousands of lives saved, habitats restored, and communities strengthened.

35 years of hope, resilience, and commitment carried forward together.

Stay tuned for more surprises from us in this special year!

What does life look like for a sun bear in his golden years? 🐻
At the Samboja Lestari Sun Bear Sanctuary, Bali is one of the oldest bears, now around 45 years old. After once suffering paralysis in his hind legs, Bali had to relearn how to stand and walk again. With intensive care, patience, and his incredible determination, Bali slowly regained his strength and can now walk again, step by step.
His story reminds us that hope and resilience can exist at any age.
