Food safety depends not only on standards, but also on the habits, decisions, and accountability that shape everyday practice across the food chain.

On 27 August 2026, the International Pepper Community (IPC) Secretariat joined a virtual Food Safety Culture training organised by the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA), together with 227 participants.

The session explored how leadership, communication, accountability, employee awareness, and workplace behaviour contribute to a stronger food safety culture. It also highlighted relevant Codex guidance on management commitment, employee accountability, and continuous improvement.

The discussion connected these practical themes with the wider work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in supporting Codex Members through scientific advice, capacity development, practical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

For IPC, continued participation in international learning platforms helps strengthen institutional understanding of evolving food safety practices and supports Member Countries in advancing safer, more competitive, and internationally aligned pepper and spice value chains.

From Beijing to Bali, dialogue is continuing to build momentum for closer cooperation between China and the International Pepper Community (IPC).

On 24 August 2026, IPC Executive Director Ms. Marina Novira Anggraini led an official delegation to the Headquarters of the China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA) in Beijing for a bilateral meeting with Ms. Li Yi, Secretary-General of the China Spices Association (CSA).

The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of ongoing engagement and identify practical areas for closer cooperation. A key focus was reciprocal participation and leadership engagement at two major industry gatherings later this year: the China Spices Conference 2026, to be held in Guilin on 10โ€“12 November 2026, and the 54th IPC Annual Session and Meetings alongside the International Spices Exhibition, to be held in Bali, Indonesia, from 30 November to 4 December 2026.

The discussion also went beyond upcoming events. Both sides exchanged views on practical pathways to further strengthen Chinaโ€“IPC engagement, including continued communication with relevant Chinese authorities regarding Chinaโ€™s potential future participation as a Full Member of the IPC.

The dialogue reflects a shared interest in building stronger institutional and industry connections, facilitating trade and market exchange, and advancing a more sustainable and resilient pepper and spices sector.

IPC looks forward to sustaining this constructive momentum and translating dialogue into meaningful cooperation in the months ahead.

Safe and predictable food trade is built long before a shipment reaches the border. This perspective framed the International Pepper Communityโ€™s participation in the 2026 APEC Customs Business Dialogue (ACBD), held on 20โ€“21 August 2026 in Dalian, China.

The Dialogue opened with a Keynote Address by H.E. Mrs. SUN Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China (GACC), followed by Welcome Remarks from H.E. Mr. GU Jun, Vice Governor of Liaoning Province.

At the invitation of GACC, IPC Executive Director Ms. Marina Novira Anggraini addressed Session 4, Strengthening Agri-food Safety and Supply Chain Connectivity in the Asia-Pacific, presenting: โ€œFood Safety Begins Before the Border: Building Trust and Connectivity in Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Trade.โ€

Drawing on the global pepper sector, her intervention advanced a central principle: the border should be the final checkpoint of a trusted supply chain, not where unresolved risks first become visible. Many delays and rejections stem from upstream gaps in regulatory information, testing capacity, documentation, and coordination. IPC highlighted three priorities: earlier regulatory communication; integrated production, laboratory and traceability evidence; and practical compliance systems for smallholders and MSMEs.

The Dialogue also offered an opportunity to deepen IPCโ€™s engagement with GACC and Chinese stakeholders through ongoing dialogue on closer cooperation and future engagement with the Community.

For the global pepper sector, these issues are especially relevant. Smallholder-based production, cross-border supply chains, and rising food safety requirements make trust and regulatory connectivity essential to sustainable trade.

IPC thanks GACC, the APEC organizers, and participating delegates for advancing safer and more connected agri-food trade across the Asia-Pacific.

On 19 August 2026, the International Pepper Community (IPC), led by Executive Director Ms. Marina Novira Anggraini, held a constructive virtual meeting with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Cambodia, represented by Country Director Mr. Ivo Litzenberg.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on Cambodiaโ€™s ongoing efforts to strengthen the policy foundation for its pepper sector and to explore areas where international cooperation could add practical value.

At the centre of the discussion was the development of a more coherent national policy framework for pepper, bringing together relevant ministries and key domestic stakeholders, including the Cambodia Pepper and Spices Federation (CPSF). Such coordination is important in connecting national priorities with the realities faced by producers, businesses, and other actors across the pepper value chain.

The exchange also highlighted the value of combining global market perspectives, technical expertise, and strong local engagement to support better quality, wider market opportunities, and the long-term competitiveness of Cambodiaโ€™s pepper sector.

For IPC, this dialogue reflects a broader commitment to fostering cooperation that responds to the priorities of producing countries while strengthening connections between policy, industry, and development partners.

Through sustained dialogue and practical collaboration, IPC will continue to support efforts toward a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable global pepper economy.

Strong partnerships become more meaningful when they create space for new ideas, practical learning, and wider collaboration.

On 10 August 2026, the International Pepper Community (IPC), led by Executive Director Ms. Marina Novira Anggraini, met with the Institute of Technology Batam (ITEBA) at the ITEBA Campus. The ITEBA delegation was led by Mr. Taufiq Rahman, S.T., M.T., Dean of the School of Economics, Business and Management, accompanied by members of the ITEBA team.

The meeting marked a further step in the institutional partnership between IPC and ITEBA, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 9 December 2025 and the Memorandum of Agreement finalized on 31 March 2026.

Building on these foundations, and following IPCโ€™s MOU with GEF SGP Indonesia signed on 22 July 2026, the discussion explored opportunities for complementary collaboration among IPC, ITEBA, and GEF SGP Indonesia.

The exchange focused on how research, technology, sustainable development approaches, and trade perspectives could be brought together to support pepper farming communities, strengthen sustainable value chains, and encourage practical innovation within the pepper sector.

The partners also discussed the potential for an initial collaborative initiative in Indonesia that could generate practical experience and knowledge for wider exchange and possible adaptation across IPC Member Countries, in line with their respective national contexts and priorities.

Through continued engagement with academic institutions and development partners, IPC seeks to strengthen knowledge-sharing, innovation, and international cooperation in support of a more resilient, sustainable, and competitive global pepper sector.
