From 3–4 August 2026, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul paid an official visit to Indonesia and met President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on 3 August. The visit, reported as the first official visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years, reaffirmed the Indonesia–Thailand Strategic Partnership and addressed cooperation in security, trade, investment, food and energy security, the digital economy, education, tourism, and ASEAN-related issues.
The principal official outcome was the adoption of the Indonesia–Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030. The two leaders also set an official bilateral-trade target of USD 20 billion by 2030 and agreed to establish a Joint Trade Commission to expand market access, facilitate business cooperation, and address trade barriers. The visit was also accompanied by government and business-sector initiatives, including education cooperation; tourism MoUs between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa and Traveloka; and KADIN Indonesia–Thai business cooperation on trade, investment, and carbon markets.
The partnership is expected to create opportunities for both countries through deeper trade and investment links, food-security cooperation, tourism connectivity, digital-economy collaboration, and green investment. In agriculture, the discussions included Thailand’s offer to supply high-quality rice, dairy products, beef, and agricultural machinery to Indonesia, alongside Thailand’s interest in increasing imports of Indonesian urea fertilizer. These initiatives could also support more resilient ASEAN supply chains, though their benefits will depend on implementation.
