Strengthening Austria–Timor-Leste relations 🇦🇹🤝🇹🇱
From 14–16 June, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Michael Wislocki visited Dili for a series of meetings to further deepen Austria’s partnership with Timor-Leste.
Together with Austria’s Honorary Consul, Stefan Hlavac, he paid a courtesy visit to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation H.E. Jesuina Gomes. Discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, including Austria’s support for young Timorese women entrepreneurs through UNICEF, scholarships, and training opportunities in Austria for Timorese diplomats and police officers. Both sides also exchanged views on multilateral issues, including Austria’s election to the UN Security Council, Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership, and its LDC Chairship.
Mr. Wislocki also met with Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Élia A.A. dos Reis Amaral, to discuss cooperation in the health sector, as well as with Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, H.E. Nelyo Isaac Sarmento, to explore collaboration in youth development, vocational training, cultural exchange, and Austria’s continued support for Timor-Leste’s regional integration within ASEAN.
The visit also included meetings with EU Delegation Chargé d’Affaires Christoph Sorg, UNICEF Representative Patricia DiGiovanni, UNDP Resident Representative Katyna Argueta, and the NGOs Pro-EMA and FOKUPERS to discuss Austria’s support for their programmes and ongoing cooperation across key development priorities.
The visit reaffirmed Austria’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Timor-Leste and advancing cooperation in education, health, sustainable development, culture, youth empowerment, and women’s economic empowerment.
