Australia is strongly committed to the WTO and its framework of rules, which helps promote and protect the open, rules-based global trading system.

Australia’s Ambassador to ASEAN, H.E. Tiffany McDonald, joined Deputy Secretary George Mina - DFAT, ASEAN policymakers and think tanks at the “ASEAN’s Role in Shaping the Future of Global Trade Governance High-Level Roundtable”.

The Roundtable took place at a time when the global trading environment is being tested, underscoring the importance of working together to reform the WTO to help it address modern trade challenges and deliver on Members’ interests.

Australia remains committed to working with ASEAN to deepen our regional cooperation and uphold rules-based trade that supports economic growth, resilience and regional prosperity.

On World Humanitarian Day, we recognise the dedicated humanitarian workers helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters across our region.

Australia is working closely with the AHA CENTRE to build a more disaster-resilient ASEAN.

Through the Australia Assists program, Australian technical experts are supporting the AHA Centre's work to strengthen regional disaster preparedness and response.

Australia and Indonesia are working together to combat human trafficking in our region.

In Jakarta, government representatives, civil society and international organisation partners launched a new phase of Australia-Indonesia collaboration under the Australian Government-funded ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking program ( ).

Through sharing expertise and strengthening partnerships, Australia and Indonesia are supporting better protection for people at risk of trafficking and addressing emerging challenges, including online scams.

On the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, together we're supporting practical, inclusive solutions that contribute to a peaceful, stable and prosperous region for all.

🇦🇺🇰🇭 Better data, stronger action against trafficking in persons

Effective action against trafficking in persons relies on strong coordination, reliable data and informed decision-making. 📊

Australia has joined Cambodia’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT) and government partners to support the rollout of a new Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Handbook for Cambodia's National Strategic Plan on Combating Trafficking in Persons 2024-2028.

By improving how progress is tracked and lessons are shared, Cambodia's institutions can better identify challenges, measure results and strengthen efforts to prevent trafficking, protect victims and hold offenders to account. 🛡️

Through the ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking program, Australia 🇦🇺 continues to support Cambodia 🇰🇭 to advance effective responses to trafficking in persons across the region. 🌏

🌊 Advancing ASEAN’s Blue Wealth. Powering a New Engine for Regional Growth.

Following the endorsement of the ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation Plan, the ASEAN Blue Economy Regional Socialisation Workshop, convened on 29 to 30 July 2026 in Manila, the Philippines, supported by the Australian Mission to ASEAN through the Aus4ASEAN Futures Initiative, brought together policymakers, experts, partners, academia, and relevant stakeholders to validate the draft ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation Roadmap (2026–2030)—translating the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework into actionable regional priorities.

Through knowledge exchange and strategic dialogue, participants helped shape a coordinated roadmap to unlock ASEAN’s blue wealth and position the blue economy as a new engine for sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth.

📍 ASEAN's convening power remains unparalleled:
The East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and ASEAN Regional Forum brought together partners from across the Indo-Pacific to strengthen dialogue, build trust and address our region's most pressing strategic challenges.

📍 The ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to go from strength to strength:
As we celebrate five years of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Australia reaffirmed our enduring support for ASEAN Centrality and the ASEAN-led regional architecture.

📍 The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation is architecture for living peacefully with difference:
More than 60 countries came together to mark the Treaty's 50th anniversary—a milestone that underscores our shared commitment to dialogue, mutual respect and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

📍 A new phase of the ASEAN-Australia Political Security Partnership ($11 million AUD) was announced, to support cooperation in addressing shared regional security challenges. This World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we are reminded that trafficking, including for forced criminality in scam centres, continues to evolve.

Criminal networks quickly adapt to new technologies and methods, recruiting victims in one country, exploiting them in another, and moving them across multiple jurisdictions. This makes regional cooperation essential.

Through our $80 million ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking program, Australia is supporting ASEAN's efforts to strengthen victim identification and referral processes, ensuring victims of trafficking are protected and not punished for crimes they were forced to commit as a result of the trafficking.
