Philippines Chairs EAS Ambassadors' Retreat; Reinforces Commitment to Dialogue and Cooperation

Bandung, Indonesia, 9 July 2026 — The Philippines, as Chair of the East Asia Summit (EAS), convened the Retreat of the Group of the EAS Ambassadors to ASEAN (EAS Group).

Chaired by H.E. Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, the meeting featured a candid retreat discussion on the future direction of the EAS amid a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment. Participants reaffirmed the importance of preserving the EAS as the region's premier Leaders-led forum for strategic dialogue and practical cooperation, while underscoring the need to deepen cooperation on shared priorities, including maritime cooperation, energy and food security, disaster resilience, digital transformation, and other emerging regional challenges like addressing online scams.

"As we navigate an increasingly complex strategic environment, the East Asia Summit remains an indispensable platform for dialogue, trust-building, and practical cooperation. Philippines Kicks Off ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting Week with CPR Meeting in Manila

18 July 2026, Pasay City, Philippines — Chaired by Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, the Philippines convened the Seventh Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) on 18 July at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The meeting marked the opening of the week-long series of meetings under the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and Post-Ministerial Conferences (PMCs), bringing together ASEAN Ambassadors to prepare for the Ministerial discussions and related engagements.

"The CPR discussed ASEAN's ongoing Community-building efforts across different Pillars of cooperation, especially key matters concerning ASEAN's external relations architecture. These discussions help ensure that our Ministers are well-positioned to advance ASEAN's priorities and deepen ASEAN’s engagement with its Dialogue and Other External Partners," Ambassador Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq said.

Throughout the week, Foreign Ministers from ASEAN's Dialogue Partners, ASEAN Plus Three, East Asia Summit Participating Countries, and the ASEAN Regional Forum are expected to gather in Manila for the 59th AMM and PMC. The meetings will provide an important platform to strengthen ASEAN's external relations, advance practical cooperation with partners, and discuss pressing regional and international developments. Ministers and Senior Officials will likewise participate in the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), reaffirming their shared commitment to the Treaty as the cornerstone of peace, dialogue, and cooperation in the region.

Established under the ASEAN Charter, the CPR is composed of Ambassadors of all ASEAN Member States accredited to ASEAN and based in Jakarta. The CPR supports the work of ASEAN's Community Councils, facilitates ASEAN's relations with its external partners, and helps ensure the effective implementation of ASEAN decisions and initiatives. #

Philippines Champions Innovation and Digital Cooperation at ASEAN–India ScaleHub 2026

Bali, Indonesia, 15 July 2026 — The Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional innovation and digital transformation as Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN and Country Coordinator for ASEAN–India Dialogue Relations, delivered the Opening Remarks at the ASEAN–India ScaleHub 2026 and GATES Southeast Asia Enterprise Channel Summit 2026.

Ambassador Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq underscored the Philippines' vision of Filipinnovation—a whole-of-nation strategy that harnesses Filipino ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and technology to drive inclusive growth and globally competitive industries. She highlighted the country's robust innovation ecosystem, anchored on the Philippine Innovation Act and the Innovative Startup Act, alongside government initiatives supporting startups, AI, and digital transformation.

“As ASEAN Chair, the Philippines is advancing initiatives under the SAIL ASEAN framework, including the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), regional AI cooperation, and stronger innovation ecosystems. By connecting the digital strengths and economic potential of every ASEAN Member State, we can build one innovative, integrated digital ecosystem that attracts investment, empowers entrepreneurs, and delivers tangible benefits for our peoples,” she said.

The Philippines was represented by four innovative startups showcasing Filipino ingenuity and technological solutions: Cerbero Solutions, CP Health Innovations, Akaiin, and Quateable (Shoppable). Their participation demonstrated how Filipino enterprises are leveraging innovation to improve lives, generate employment, and contribute to regional economic growth.

The ASEAN–India ScaleHub 2026, organized by the Government of India in partnership with the ASEAN Secretariat, brought together startups, investors, policymakers, accelerators, and innovation leaders from ASEAN and India to strengthen cross-border collaboration in digital innovation and entrepreneurship. Held alongside the GATES Southeast Asia Enterprise Channel Summit 2026, the event featured startup showcases, business matching sessions, investment engagements, mentoring activities, and policy dialogues aimed at expanding market access, fostering partnerships, and advancing ASEAN–India cooperation in the digital economy and emerging technologies. #

EAS Ambassadors Strengthen Regional Cooperation and Dialogue, Advancing Shared Commitment to Peace and Resilience

Bandung, Indonesia, 9 July 2026 — The Second Meeting of the Group of the East Asia Summit Ambassadors in Jakarta (EAS Group) was held on 9 July 2026 in Bandung, Indonesia, bringing together representatives from all EAS Participating Countries to exchange views on strengthening regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges.

Chairing the Meeting, Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq highlighted the historical significance of Bandung as the birthplace of the 1955 Asian-African Conference and the Bandung Principles, which continue to resonate through the principles of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). She underscored the enduring relevance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and diplomacy in addressing current challenges, and described the EAS as the premier Leaders-led forum for dialogue, able to speak on broad strategic, political, and economic issues, and, in doing so, keep strategic stability and balance in the environment, banking on the principles of ASEAN Centrality, openness, inclusivity, dialogue, cooperation, and respect for international law.

The Meeting discussed the implementation of the EAS Plan of Action (POA) 2024–2028, with External Partner Countries (EPCs) reaffirming their strong support for ASEAN Centrality and the continued relevance of the EAS in promoting practical cooperation. Delegations highlighted the importance of sustaining momentum across the POA’s priority areas, including maritime cooperation, energy security, food security, disaster resilience, digital transformation, connectivity, climate action, sustainable development, and efforts to address transnational crime.

EPCs emphasized the importance of advancing initiatives under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and welcomed the upcoming commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the TAC as an opportunity to reaffirm shared principles of peace, cooperation, and peaceful settlement of disputes.

The Meeting also featured an exchange of views on key regional and international developments affecting peace, stability, and prosperity. Delegations emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, and adherence to international law in addressing complex challenges facing the region and beyond.

In closing, Ambassador Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq emphasized the need for continued cooperation among EPCs to strengthen regional resilience and address shared challenges. “At a time of growing uncertainties, the EAS must continue to serve as a platform for constructive engagement, confidence-building, and practical cooperation. By working together in the spirit of partnership and ASEAN Centrality, we can further strengthen our collective efforts toward a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region,” she said. #

PH Mission to ASEAN Joins Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award

The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN held its Flag Raising Ceremony on 06 July 2026 in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award, a landmark legal victory for the Philippines and for the rules-based international order, and in recognition of the unwavering dedication of the Philippines’ uniformed personnel, public servants, fisherfolk, coastal communities, and every Filipino who contributes to protecting the country’s maritime interests and heritage.

The Philippine Mission joins Foreign Service Posts and Consular Offices around the world in reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes, the rule of law, and the principles enshrined in international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

During the ceremony, Her Excellency, Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN read the Message of Secretary Eduardo Oban, Jr., National Security Adviser and Chair of the National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea. In his message, Secretary Oban underscored that maritime rights and entitlements are determined by law, not by power or coercion, and reaffirmed the importance of UNCLOS and the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction, and lawful maritime entitlements.

Philippines and ADB Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening ASEAN Cooperation

Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, received Asian Development Bank (ADB) Deputy Director General for Southeast Asia Department and Country Director for the Philippines, Mr. Pavit Ramachandran, at the Philippine Mission to ASEAN today.

Ambassador Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq conveyed the Philippines’ appreciation for ADB’s active engagement during the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu and its continued support for ASEAN priorities. Both sides exchanged ideas on how ADB could bring even more value to Philippine Chairship outcomes, including through mechanisms where ASEAN is engaging with external partners.

ADB presented its ongoing and planned support for ASEAN in energy security, regional connectivity, digital transformation and the digital economy, the blue economy, capital market development, disaster risk management, and others.

Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation to advance sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth across the region. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of ASEAN and ADB to translating regional priorities into concrete initiatives through enhanced cooperation, technical assistance, financing, and knowledge-sharing partnerships. #

23 May 2026, Jakarta - The Philippine Mission to ASEAN participated in the 5th ASEAN-India Bazaar held today, organized by the Mission of India to ASEAN. The event brought together Missions of ASEAN Member States, entrepreneurs and small businesses, and cultural groups to celebrate the enduring friendship and vibrant partnership between ASEAN and India through cultural presentations, traditional crafts, cuisine, and local products. The Philippine booth showcased Filipino food products, handicrafts, and cultural items, highlighting the Philippines’ rich heritage and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In her remarks, H.E. Amb. Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, highlighted the continued strengthening of ASEAN-India relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment, as 2026 ASEAN Chair, to advancing a resilient, inclusive, and people-centered ASEAN, with focus on supporting MSMEs, innovation, and the creative economy, noting that initiatives such as the ASEAN-India Bazaar provide meaningful opportunities for entrepreneurs and cultural communities to connect and thrive.

The Philippines, as ASEAN Chair and coordinator for ASEAN-UN Relations, convened the CPR–United Nations Interface in Jakarta. The Philippines reaffirmed its belief in the enduring and necessary partnership of ASEAN and the UN at a time of great stress on the international system and tension among states. The Philippines emphasized the region’s commitment to collective and rules based engagement for shared problems, saying that ASEAN itself is an organization built and thriving on rules and norms.

The Philippines highlighted its commitment to multilateralism, and its deep belief in the value that engagement with the UN brings to the region. The Philippines counts on UN strengths built up over almost 8 decades, and its network of specialized agencies, providing technical expertise, political insight, and the potential of triangular cooperation.

The Interface provided an important platform for ASEAN Member States to exchange views, strengthen cooperation, and take stock of the first year of implementation of the ASEAN–UN Plan of Action 2026–2030. The Committee of Permanent Representatives warmly welcomed the UN delegation led by Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari, and underscored shared commitment to sustainable development and stronger regional and global cooperation.
