Philippines Chairs EAS Ambassadors' Retreat; Reinforces Commitment to Dialogue and Cooperation
Bandung, Indonesia, 9 July 2026 — The Philippines, as Chair of the East Asia Summit (EAS), convened the Retreat of the Group of the EAS Ambassadors to ASEAN (EAS Group).
Chaired by H.E. Ambassador Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, the meeting featured a candid retreat discussion on the future direction of the EAS amid a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment. Participants reaffirmed the importance of preserving the EAS as the region's premier Leaders-led forum for strategic dialogue and practical cooperation, while underscoring the need to deepen cooperation on shared priorities, including maritime cooperation, energy and food security, disaster resilience, digital transformation, and other emerging regional challenges like addressing online scams.
"As we navigate an increasingly complex strategic environment, the East Asia Summit remains an indispensable platform for dialogue, trust-building, and practical cooperation.
