The Hutan Pendidikan hosts researchers, visitors, students and organizations who want to experience nature in the heart of the stunning karst ecology of Maros province. The site is ideally located less than 2 hours drive from Makassar, a major transportation hub, 20 kilometers from Bantimurang National Park, and boasts an incredibly rich diversity of plant and wildlife. te large groups for both day trips and longer stays, with comfortable furnished rooms, traditional wooden houses, spacious meeting rooms, lab facilities and campgrounds. Our primary objectives are forestry field research and environmental education. We welcome visitors from around the world to study the unique ecology of our 1300-hectare forest, comprised of tracts of natural forest, pine plantations and agro-forestry areas. Research
The diverse ecology of Hutan Pendidikan enables faculty and students from Universitas Hasanuddin as well as other research institutions to pursue new research on a great variety of topics including forest conservation, silviculture, wildlife habitat requirements among many other areas of interest. Education
Hutan Pendidikan hosts groups of schoolchildren, university students and individuals from many different organizations to learn about the forest environment and conservation. We also offer a 2-day training program for environmental leaders and schoolteachers providing them with instruction in the activities and games of an 8-week environmental education program, to take back to school age youth in their own communities. Outbound & Team-building
Business organizations, government offices, and activity groups often come to the Hutan Pendidikan to run the ropes course, and engage in team-building activities either for the activities alone, or as adjuncts to work conferences. Our facilities include the outbound course, run by trained staff, large meeting rooms, and arrangements for meal catering. Camping & Hiking
There are several well-marked hiking trails throughout Hutan Pendidikan, leading the hiker through leafy forests to waterfalls and scenic views. Along several of the trails there are quiet campgrounds where nature lovers can experience wilderness, look for birds and butterflies, hear monkeys in the distance, and commune with the trees.
