Today Tris dives into the issue of child abandonment.
What is the child abandonment?
According to STIMA IMMI, abandoned children are children whose parents, for some reason, neglect and or are unable to carry out their obligations for their physical, psychological, spiritual or social well-being.
This is a major issue, the latest figures has shown that the number of neglected children in Indonesia has reached 67,368 children. (2020, kepenkopmk.go.id)
It is important to be aware that this issue is common in our society. And it will take commitment to reduce this figure. Prevention is key, because when we (need to) support a abandoned child, the damage is already done. Let's discuss openly with each other what it takes to be a (good) parent and if we are ready to take that responsibility upon us. There is no shame to wait a bit longer and allow yourself to grow. Social Workers, nonprofits and the government can all play their part to help stimulate this discussion.
So, what are your thoughts about this? When do you think someone is ready to commit to parenthood? Please let us know in the comments!
