πŸ“š ABSTRACT:
Ultrafast dynamics in quantum materials are governed by coupled interactions among electronic, spin, and lattice degrees of freedom. Understanding these interactions on their intrinsic timescales is essential for revealing and controlling non-equilibrium phases of matter. In this talk, I will present two studies using time-resolved resonant and non-resonant X-ray scattering at SwissFEL (Paul Scherrer Institute), which enables the magnetic and lattice responses to be probed independently on ultrafast timescales. In the first study, we resolved the electromagnon mode, where magnons and polar phonons hybridize to form a dynamical multiferroic state, by separately tracking its magnon and phonon components. We revealed phase shifts relative to the THz drive that establish the mode's excitation pathway [1]. In the second study, we investigated how antiferromagnetic order recovers after photoexcitation through hierarchical couplings among subsystems, in which two magnons annihilate to create one phonon, conserving energy and momentum and transferring energy from spins to the lattice. Phase-space restrictions on this scattering channel point to a way to control the lifetime of non-equilibrium states [2].

We predict hydrodynamic Turing instability of current-carrying Dirac electron fluids that drives spontaneous self-oscillatory transport. The instability arises near charge neutrality, where carrier kinetics make current dissipation strongly density dependent. Above a critical drift velocity, a uniform electronic flow becomes unstable and undergoes a dynamical transition to a state with coupled spatial modulation and temporal oscillations, an electronic analogue of Kapitsa roll waves in viscous films. The transition exhibits two clear signatures: a nonanalytic, second-order like onset in the time-averaged current and narrow-band electromagnetic emission at a tunable washboard frequency. Although reminiscent of sliding charge-density waves, the mechanism is intrinsic and disorder independent, establishing Dirac materials as a platform for high-frequency self-oscillatory electron hydrodynamics.

Coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) is a process in which neutrinos scatter off a nucleus that acts as a single particle. The process has long proven difficult to detect since the nuclear recoil energy lies in the keV range, despite a large cross section at the same neutrino energy. After more than four decades from its theoretical prediction, the process was successfully measured using stopped-pion neutrinos at the spallation neutron source. This achievement has triggered numerous scientific activities, inspiring new constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model, and has important implications for not only high-energy physics but also astroparticle physics, nuclear physics, and beyond. In this talk, we will discuss the scientific importance of CEvNS, highlighting how today's experiments are informing theory, as well as how future advancements will provide a wealth of information across the related research fields.

πŸ“š ABSTRACT:
Resonance fluorescence from a coherently driven two-level emitter combines photon antibunching with laser-like spectral coherence - a seemingly paradoxical coexistence that has recently reignited debate. Using an InAs quantum dot embedded in a micropillar cavity, we revisit this phenomenon through a pure-state description that treats the emitter and its radiative field as a single coherent quantum system. In this framework, resonance fluorescence emerges as a stream of phase-locked, lifetime-limited single photons whose mutual interference gives rise to sub-natural linewidths, with experimentally verified predictions for both first- and second-order coherence. The same pure-state framework also accounts for the recently observed tunable high-order coherence in the interference between resonance fluorescence and laser light, and provides a unified description of spontaneous emission, coherence, and quantum interference in detuned resonance fluorescence. We further show that these quantum correlations can be converted into energy-time entanglement using only passive linear optics, leading to violation of the CHSH Bell inequality. Finally, by operating the same device platform with dark-state biexciton loading, we realise a genuine two-photon emitter with a two-photon fraction of 98.3%.
