On 10 August 2026, a newly-appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to ASEAN, H.E. Redouane Houssaini, presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Houssaini on his assumption of office and reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s commitment to further strengthening the ASEAN-Morocco Sectoral Dialogue Partnership established in 2023. The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support for ASEAN Community-building efforts.

Ambassador Houssaini thanked Secretary-General Dr. Kao for the warm welcome. He looked forward to working closely with ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat in further strengthening Morocco’s ties and cooperation with ASEAN during his term of office.

Morocco has accredited its first Ambassador to ASEAN since 2010. Ambassador Houssaini succeeds Ambassador Ouadia Benabdellah, who completed his tenure in April 2025.

Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, led the ASEAN Secretariat delegation to the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Post-Ministerial Conferences, and Related Meetings, held from 18 to 24 July 2026 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines under the Philippines' Chairship. Convened under the theme "Navigating Our Future, Together," the meetings advanced ASEAN Community-building, strengthened ASEAN's external relations, and reaffirmed ASEAN Centrality amid an evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic landscape.

At the invitation of H.E. Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will undertake a Working Visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil, on 18-21 August 2026.

During the Working Visit, Dr. Kao will engage with a wide range of high-ranking government officials and key stakeholders, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Mines and Energy, the Minister of Sports, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, the President of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, the President of the Federal Supreme Court, and the President of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, among many others.

As part of his efforts to promote ASEAN’s profile and visibility, Dr. Kao will deliver a lecture on “ASEAN Regionalism: Overcoming Challenges and Building a Community,” at the Institute of International Relations of the University of Brasilia. In addition, Dr. Kao is also scheduled to meet with the ASEAN Committee in Brasilia, where he would brief the Committee on the latest development on the work of ASEAN and discuss the current state and future direction of ASEAN-Brazil Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, as well as exchange views on the Committee’s role in advancing ASEAN-Brazil relations.

The Working Visit of the Secretary-General of ASEAN to Brazil this time will be an important opportunity to promote the ASEAN-Brazil Sectoral Dialogue Partnership by highlighting positive engagements between ASEAN and Brazil and reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the years ahead.

On 11 August 2026, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), H.E. San Lwin, chaired the Twenty-Second Coordinating Conference on the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (22nd SOC-COM).

Co-hosted by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) of the Republic of the Philippines, the conference served as a key platform for advancing ASEAN's socio-cultural agenda and ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the ASCC Strategic Plan.

Creativity knows no borders, and across ASEAN, creative economy continues to transform economies and connect communities across our region.

On 13 August 2026, at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, ASEAN delegates and international partners gathered for the Validation Workshop for the Regional Landscape Study on the Establishment of the ASEAN Center of Excellence for Creative Industries (ACE-CI). The establishment of the ACE-CI is one of the Priority Economic Deliverables under the Philippines’ 2026 ASEAN Chairship.

The workshop was opened by Assistant Secretary Nylah Rizza Bautista of the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, H.E. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community, and H.E. Helen Fazey, UK Ambassador to ASEAN, underscoring the strategic importance of ASEAN and UK partnership in nurturing regional creative ecosystem.

This workshop brought together cross-pillars representatives from the Senior Economic Officials' Meeting (SEOM), the Senior Officials' Meeting on Culture and Arts (SOMCA), and the Senior Officials' Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI). Together, participants mapped out priorities, policy frameworks, and collaborative models designed to ensure the ACE-CI serves as a vibrant, future-ready hub for the region's creative economy.

On 4 August 2026, Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, welcomed H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.

The official visit commenced with a tree planting ceremony, followed by the signing of the guest book, the presentation of an artwork from Thailand to ASEAN. Other engagements would include a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Secretary-General of ASEAN, followed by the Prime Minister’s Policy Speech.

ASEAN and Denmark held the First ASEAN-Denmark Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AD-JSCC) Meeting on 11 August 2026 at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.

This is the first formal meeting between both sides since Denmark was conferred the status of ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers in January this year.

The Meeting adopted the Terms of Reference for the Committee and agreed to develop Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) for ASEAN-Denmark Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, which will guide the Partnership over the next five years.
