🧵✨ On 29 June, the Embassy of Hungary in Jakarta opened the intercultural exhibition Threads of Wax at the Jakarta Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, featuring the works of Venezuelan batik artist Jesus Cedeno.

Open until 21 July, the exhibition brings together Indonesian batik and traditional Hungarian folk embroidery, reinterpreting the iconic Matyó and Kalocsa motifs through the batik technique.

The exhibition was opened by H.E. Lilla Karsay, Ambassador of Hungary to Indonesia, together with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and H.E. Denis Chaibi, Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia, in the presence of distinguished guests.

This exhibition is the Ambassador's final major cultural project in Indonesia, making it an especially meaningful occasion. 🇭🇺🇮🇩

💐 Farewell and Thank You to H.E. Ambassador Lilla Karsay! 💐

Today, we look back with deep gratitude and admiration as we bid farewell to H.E. Mrs. Lilla Karsay, Ambassador of Hungary to Indonesia, marking the conclusion of an incredible 10-year journey in the country. Over the past decade, Ambassador Karsay has been a driving force behind the flourishing relations between Hungary and Indonesia. Through her unwavering dedication, she has successfully built bridges, fostered high-level political dialogues, and significantly expanded the Indonesian-Hungarian relations. Her visionary leadership has created lasting partnerships and opened new avenues of collaboration that will benefit both nations for years to come. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for her outstanding service, tireless efforts, and the profound impact she has made during her tenure in Jakarta.

On June 15, 2026, H.E. Lilla Karsay, Ambassador of Hungary to Indonesia and ASEAN, met with H.E. Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Religious Affairs. They discussed bilateral religious relations, the importance of interfaith dialogue, and the role of cultural and educational cooperation🎓 in strengthening Indonesian-Hungarian relations. 🇭🇺🤝🇮🇩
The meeting was also attended by the Minister's Special Advisor and Director of the Istiqlal Mosque, Dr. Gugun Gumilar, and Political Attaché Dániel Seress.

During the discussion, a selection of seven books 📚 on Hungarian history and culture (in English) was donated to the library of the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Indonesia. On June 26, in the presence of H.E. Lilla Karsay, the donated books were officially placed on the historical shelf of the library where anyone can read them.🤓

On 24 June, H.E. Lilla Karsay, Ambassador of Hungary to Indonesia and ASEAN, paid a farewell visit to H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN.

During the meeting, Ambassador Karsay expressed her gratitude for ASEAN’s continued support in strengthening Hungary–ASEAN cooperation over the years. She highlighted the success of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, which has provided educational opportunities to more than 1,000 ASEAN students, and noted that ASEAN’s support has helped promote the programme across various regional platforms.

The parties also discussed future avenues of cooperation between the European Union and ASEAN. As an EU Member State, Hungary looks forward to further strengthening engagement with ASEAN in the fields of sustainability, infrastructure development, and people-to-people connectivity, including through the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn congratulated Ambassador Karsay on her successful tenure and wished her every success in her future endeavors.

On 23 June, H.E. Lilla Karsay, Ambassador of Hungary to Indonesia, paid a farewell courtesy call to H.E. Sugiono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

During the meeting, Ambassador Karsay expressed her sincere appreciation for the support and cooperation extended by the Government of Indonesia throughout her tenure. She noted that Hungary–Indonesia relations have continued to grow stronger, underpinned by expanding cooperation across a wide range of fields.

Both parties reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening educational and technological cooperation, which remain key priorities in the bilateral partnership. Ambassador Karsay also expressed her hope that Hungary will have the opportunity to welcome H.E. President Prabowo Subianto in the future, further advancing the close friendship between the two countries.

On 18 June, a poster exhibition featuring twenty works by Hungarian graphic and poster designer Kata Káldor at Pradita University in Jakarta, organized by the lecturers and students of the Visual Communication Design program. 🇭🇺🖼️🇮🇩

Open to the public until 18 July, the exhibition presents a selection from Káldor’s decades-long artistic career, exploring themes such as identity, environmental protection, social responsibility, and the impact of technological development.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Lilla Karsay welcomed the exhibition as another example of the growing cultural ties between Hungary and Indonesia, highlighting how culture and education continue to connect our two countries despite the geographical distance between them.

Rector Prof. Dr. Eko Indrajit noted that this is the second Hungarian exhibition hosted by the university and expressed his hope that the cooperation between Pradita University, the Embassy of Hungary, and the Hungarian visual arts community will continue to flourish in the future.

The opening ceremony also featured video messages from Hungarian artists Gyula Molnár, Ágnes Rozmann, and István Horkay, who greeted the participants and shared their support for this cultural initiative.

🇮🇩🤝🌍 On 12 June Ambassador Lilla Karsay attended the KADIN Diplomatic Breakfast, bringing together diplomats, government officials, and business leaders to discuss Indonesia’s economic priorities and international partnerships.

Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the role of economic diplomacy in supporting growth, investment, and international cooperation, while KADIN Chairman Anindya Bakrie highlighted initiatives to expand trade, attract investment, and strengthen Indonesia’s global business presence through new international partnerships and export-focused programs. 📈🌏

Hungary is looking forward to further strenghten our economic relations working together with KADIN. 🇭🇺🤝🇮🇩

On 10 June 2026, Ambassador Lilla Karsay paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, the newly appointed Directors General of American and European Affairs and Mr. Akbar Makarti, the new Director of European Affairs I at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 🇭🇺🤝🇮🇩

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the current state of Hungary–Indonesia relations and exchanged views on key areas of bilateral cooperation, including political, economic and educational affairs.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and partnership between the two countries.

The newly appointed Directors General called Hungary a key partner for Indonesia in Europe and promised to place great emphasis on further developing relations. 🇭🇺🔑🇪🇺

The parties maintained their commitment to strengthening educational cooperation between the countries through various scholarship and exchange programs.📚🎓

Ambassador Karsay congratulated Grata Endah Werdaningtyas and Mr. Akbar Makarti on their new appointment and wished them every success in their new and important role. 🙏
