Tesco Ireland has launched their Lighting Up Christmas Fund, a €100,000 initiative designed to help communities across Ireland make Christmas feel that little bit more magical.

Through the fund, 20 community organisations will receive grants of €5,000 towards Christmas lights, festive displays, switch-on events or other seasonal activities that bring communities together. Please help spread the word among community groups in our area.

Across the country, volunteers and community groups work tirelessly each year to create the Christmas experiences local families look forward to. The fund aims to support those efforts, helping communities create vibrant town centres, celebrate local pride and foster a sense of togetherness during the festive season.

Applications are open to Chambers of Commerce, residents’ associations, community groups and other local organisations.

The burst section of the trunk main has now been replaced and I thank the staff of Irish water for their swift response to this incident. It still may take a few hours for supplies to fully restored. Now focus needs to be on identifying the cause of these recurring failures with a view to a long term solution.
