Clooncoran The River Suck In Clooncoran. Very good pike fishing on the river, Brown Trout, Pike, Perch, Eels Roscommon. Galway apporx 5 miles away.

Clooncoran is a townland in the parish of Taughmaconnel in the barony of Athlone Co. Clooncoran is also situated close to the town of Ballinasloe Co. The river Suck boarders Clooncoran running along side it for 4 miles. Fish

There use to be Eel Weirs on the stretch of the River Suck From Ballygill Bridge, but were ta

ken up for the improvement of navigation of the River Shannon in 10th June 1833. The river Suck was deepened by 2 feet. There was no compensation given for the Eel Weirs in Clooncoran. There was also a Ford which was also taken up, it was used by the residents in Clooncoran to travel across to the other side. There was also 2 cattle drives in Clooncoran both on same month and on same farm, on 14th and 20th April 1908, the extensive cattle drives took place on Timothy Murray s farm. On 14th april then head of cattle were driven off Mr,Murrays farm at Clooncoran, and 5 men were subsquently arrested on warrant and bound over with sureties to keep the peace for 12 months. On 20th April 1908 the same cattle were driven off by nine other men, who were arrested on the spot and similarly bound over to keep the peace.
