Meet Avril Carr who plays Cassie in the new Butt Drama Circle show Unpacking Mother here at The Balor on Friday 26th & Saturday 27th June.

Unpacking Mother continues the Butt Drama Circles relationship with author Karen Schaeffer who also wrote the Girls Werkend comedies which went down so well with audiences previously.

This will be the first time this play has ever been performed in Ireland.

⭐️MEET THE CAST ⭐️
Cassie-Played by Avril Carr

After spending ten years in Abu Dhabi working as an English teacher, Avril returned to Donegal and rejoined the Butt Drama Circle. She played the role of Meg in "Girls’ Weekend" in 2024 and reprised her involvement in its follow-up, The "Hen Party", in 2025. Later that year, she played Claire in LDMG'S production of "The Band".
In 2026, Avril has already performed with the Balor Songbook Choir in a sell out run, and recently appeared as Hanna in the Balor DCA production of "Lovers" by Brian Friel. She now takes on the role of Cassie in Unpacking Mother.

Cassie sacrificed so much to care for her ailing mother, while her sister Kathryn built the life she never had. Years of resentment have hardened her, but she now holds long-buried family secrets. Forced back into Kathryn’s life, Cassie is determined to confront the past...

Kathryn- played by Aoife Flanagan
Over the years, Aoife has enjoyed performing with drama and musical societies in Letterkenny, Derry and Dublin. Most recently, she appeared in "Shrek the Musical" with LDMG. Closer to home, she was a proud member of the Balor Songbook Choir, performing in their sell-out runs in 2019, 2024 and 2026. Aoife now returns to the stage in the role of Kathryn in "Unpacking Mother".
Kathryn has been absent from the family home for several years and, during that time, has had only fleeting contact with the sister she was once so close to. Living abroad, with a successful career, a home of her own and an apparently happy marriage, Kathryn seems to have it all. However, things may not be quite as straightforward as she would have everyone believe…
