Welcome to the official page for the Céide Fields Vistor Centre an OPW managed heritage site.

The Céide Fields are the oldest known field systems in Europe, built by our Neolithic ancestors nearly six thousand years ago. Preserved beneath a blanket of peat they extend over several square miles on the dramatic North Mayo coast. Visit the multi-award winning Centre, take a guided tour and discover a buried wall yourself using a centuries old method of probing. Experience the unique ecology of the bogland and look down over the edge of a 110m high cliff from our viewing platform.

Explore the Extraordinary this Summer at Céide Fields in North Mayo.

Beneath the boglands of North Mayo lies a system of fields, dwelling areas and megalithic tombs which together make up the Céide Fields - the most extensive Stone Age monument in the world.

The stone-walled fields, extending over hundreds of hectares, date back almost 6,000 years.

Discover the world of Ireland's first farmers on a guided tour of our archaeological site. Afterwards, enjoy some homemade treats in Kell's Kitchen (10:30am - 5:00pm)

Céide Fields is open daily from 10am, with last admission 5:15pm.

The Céide Cliffs rise to approximately 110 metres (360 feet) above the Atlantic Ocean. They are composed of layers of sandstone, limestone and shale which was formed about 350 million years ago. See them for yourself!

Bog cotton (Eriophorum angustifolium) or ceannbhán as it is known as Gaeilge is in bloom on our blanket bog. Long ago in rural Ireland, communities gathered these tufts to stuff pillows and mattresses.
