A positive night for Midlands Food at the 2026 Michelin Guide UK and Ireland Awards, held in Ireland for the first time, with 3 Midlands destination restaurants retaining their positions in the guide.

Ballyfin Demesne set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Laois, retained their Michelin Star for 2026. The restaurant, run by Executive Chef Richard Picard-Edwards, is located within the 614 acre Ballyfin Demense and the recognition is a testament to the vision and craftsmanship of the chef and his talented team, who have worked tirelessly to craft a menu that embodies the spirit of Ballyfin. Drawing inspiration from the estate’s rich natural larder, the team has created a dining experience that is deeply rooted in the land, offering guests an unparalleled taste of Ireland’s finest produce.

Thyme Athlone Restaurant on the banks of the Shannon in Athlone retained their Bib Gourmand for 2026 for the 8th consecutive year. Recently celebrating 18 years in operation, the restaurant is run by Owner and Head Chef John Coffey. Thyme has grown in reputation over the years for the consistency and quality of their menu and has quietly become a destination favoured by many of Ireland’s top chefs thanks to an unwavering dedication to quality local produce from suppliers across the Midlands and one of Ireland’s most welcoming dining rooms.

Bramley in Abbeyleix maintained their listing in the Guide for 2026. Operated by head chef Sam Moody, Bramley’s location in the heart of the heritage town of Abbeyleix has seen the restaurant quickly become the newest addition to the Midland’s top restaurants with a quality menu and neighbourhood atmosphere.

The Midlands continues to evolve as a food destination, the Michelin restaurants are just some of the food offerings that are inviting guests to experience the award-winning dining and explore the rich traditions, landscapes, and flavours that define our remarkable region.

Midlands Flavours. The finest food and drink from the heart of Ireland

For hundreds of years, the Midlands has been home to a proud tradition in grain milling and distilling, over time, the growth of livestock rearing created meat and dairy produce from the region. This history continues as a foundation for the regions produce today, with global names such as Tullamore DEW joined by household names such as Pat the Baker, Odlums, Kilbeggan Whiskey, Carroll’s, and Glenisk.

The Midlands is gaining an increasing reputation as a leader in Organic food and drink. Our varied landscape has been a driver of innovation for the region’s producers for centuries, from good quality dairy and arable farmland, through to mountains, lakelands and peatlands, creating a unique, unspoiled landscape, with our goal now to become Ireland’s most sustainable food and drink ecosystem.

Artisan producers are changing the face of Midlands Food & Drink today, with produce that is local, ethical, sustainable and provides local employment. These small businesses are breathing new life into their communities through vibrant farmer’s markets, award-winning produce, and growing numbers of unique food experiences.
