Voted one of our "Top Ten Visitor Attractions" by Independent.ie readers. Aillwee Cave is Ireland’s Premier Showcave – A very special place in the heart of the Burren. One of the most ancient caves in the Burren and perhaps in Ireland. The story of Aillwee Cave began millions of years ago when the landscape was very different to that which we see today. They began to form when streams sinking unde

🌱 Sustainability in Action at Aillwee 🌱

As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing waste and operating more sustainably, we’re trialling a single-use cup-free week from Monday 15th June.

Instead of disposable takeaway cups, visitors can purchase a reusable 2GoCup for just €2 when ordering a hot drink.

Why are we making the change?
☕ Around 200 million single-use cups go to landfill in Ireland every year.
☕ Approximately 99.75% of single-use cups are not recyclable due to their plastic lining.
☕ A reusable 2GoCup can be used over 1,000 times, helping to significantly reduce waste.

Our 2GoCups are:
✅ BPA-free
✅ Made from polypropylene
✅ 100% recyclable
✅ Food safe, dishwasher safe and microwave safe

Even better, there is no return deadline. Keep your cup for as long as you like and, if you decide to return it, you’ll receive your full €2 deposit back. Customers can return their cup at Aillwee or at any participating 2GoCup location across Ireland and receive a full refund, making it easy to reuse, return and reduce waste wherever your travels take you.

You can find participating locations on the 2GoCup website www.2gocup.net

By choosing a reusable cup, you’re helping us reduce single-use packaging and supporting a more sustainable future for the Burren and beyond.

We’d love your support as we trial this initiative next week. Together, small changes can make a big difference💚

This month, the Aillwee raptor team travelled to Wicklow to assist the Golden Eagle Trust in locating active Red Kite nests during the breeding season.

🪶Monitoring active nests helps build a clearer picture of Ireland’s Red Kite population. Many chicks will later be fitted with wing tags, allowing researchers to identify and track them as they disperse across Leinster. A select number will also receive GPS trackers, providing valuable long-term data on their movements and helping to inform future conservation efforts.

🪶Aillwee is proud of its long-standing partnership with the Golden Eagle Trust and is always delighted to support this important work.

All work carried out under licence.

🧀 Happy National Cheese Day from all of us at Aillwee!🧀

Since 1985, we’ve been crafting our award-winning gouda-style cheese using fresh milk from local dairy farms in the heart of the Burren.

From curd to wheel, our skilled cheesemakers bring tradition to life every single day — and you can watch the magic happen right here in the Farmshop (and, of course, taste it for yourself!).

Here’s to over four decades of passion, craftsmanship, and cheesy goodness… and many more to come! 🧀💛

Our little barn owl is growing up fast! Willow is now 12 weeks old and developing into an amazing young owl. He’s been learning quickly during his training sessions and showing great confidence every day.

We’re excited to share that Willow will hopefully be joining our flying displays in the coming weeks — and we can’t wait for visitors to see him in action!

Stay tuned for more updates on Willow’s journey 💛

Today, our team tackled a 6km litter pick along the R480, from Ballyaliban Hill to the N67 junction — a tradition we’ve proudly continued twice a year for the past 50 years.

Over the years, we’ve collected everything from mattresses and car batteries to hub caps and drink cans from this stretch of road!

We’re proud to do our part in keeping our local area clean and cared for. 🌿
