An accurate reproduction of Scene 38 of The Bayeaux Tapestry acquired in France many years ago, now on display in the entrance hall of Baltimore Castle. The scene depicts William the Conqueror crossing the English Channel. Having conquered England the Normans subsequently came to Ireland. In 1215 they built Baltimore Castle. The castle was subsequently conquered by the O'Driscoll Clan and became their principal castle and the seat of the clan chieftain.
