I welcome the commitment from the Taoiseach to raise concerns about access to legal services in Inishowen with the Minister for Justice but we need action!

This issue, highlighted by Lifeline Inishowen to me and raised in the Dáil by Deputy Charles Ward, exposes a very worrying reality. Despite there being 25 solicitors on the private practitioner panel in Donegal, only two are currently accepting family law referrals.

Access to justice should not depend on where you live. Vulnerable individuals and families facing some of the most difficult circumstances in their lives should not be left waiting or forced to travel long distances because legal supports are unavailable.

I am glad this issue is now receiving national attention, but commitments must be followed by action. People in Inishowen deserve timely access to legal representation and support when they need it most.

Thank you to Lifeline Inishowen for highlighting this important issue and to Deputy Charles Ward for bringing it before the Dáil. I look forward to seeing meaningful measures introduced to address this unacceptable situation.

Speaking to highland radio about legal aid or lack thereof!

An Inishowen Cllr claims that families are being failed by the growing crisis in legal aid. Cllr Joy Beard says that, according to the Legal Aid Board, at present there are 25 solicitors listed on the private practitioner panel for Donegal, with just two of those accepting family law refferals. Charles Ward TD motion:State Responsibility for Foundation Retention Risk in Defective Concrete Homes

I.S. 465:2026 acknowledges that scientific understanding of certain foundation deterioration mechanisms remains incomplete. This motion seeks to ensure that homeowners are not disadvantaged by unresolved scientific uncertainty when remediation decisions are made.

A Chara,

I am writing to encourage you to attend the upcoming presentation on the defective concrete crisis in the AV Room, Leinster House, at 3:30pm on Tuesday, 23rd June.

The presentation will feature leading experts Dr. Chris Brough (Petrolab) & Professor Paul Dunlop (Ulster University).

They will share important scientific and engineering evidence relating to the causes, assessment, and remediation of affected homes.

Given the ongoing impact of this crisis on families and communities, I believe this presentation offers a valuable opportunity to hear directly from experts working at the forefront of the issue.

Additionally, I ask you to vote in favour of Charles Ward's motion on Wednesday, 24th June. Supporting this motion is crucial for addressing the defective concrete crisis and finding effective solutions for all those affected. Should the Governtment table a counter motion I request you vote no.

I would be grateful if you could make every effort to attend the presentation and support the motion.

Kind regards,
