Big thanks to Pat O Gorman who sent us Ash Tree seeds all the way from County Clare. We really appreciate this. Ash dieback is a national problem and healthy Ash trees with seeds are much more difficult to find locally now no matter where you are living in Ireland. If anyone has a healthy Tree with seeds near them we would be very grateful of you could gather some and send them to us. We will be sure to do everything correctly to help them to grow and always hoping that there will be healthy Ash trees in the Irish landscape and hedgerows again one day. Thanks again Pat πŸ™πŸ™‚βœ¨

Today we finished removing the Willow seedlings from the boxes where all our little Ash trees are growing. The Willow seeds fell from the trees above in the springtime and a lot of them started growing already. The Ash tree will remain in these beds for the next year. In winter 2026 we will be potting them in small pots and we hope in early summer 2027 we will be giving them to people at Marts and markets and various other locations in the hope that people will bring them home and plant them somewhere that they can grow into mature trees. Of course we don't know how successful this will be but we try and we will keep trying ✨
This is a Carrick on Shannon Tidy Towns project.

After recent reports that younger ash trees are beginning to show signs of resistance against ash dieback, the Irish Farmers Journal spoke to hurley makers about the wood’s significance.

We are delighted to see that our Ash tree seeds have started to grow. We collected the seeds from healthy Ash trees in 2023. Ash seeds take two years to grow so we stored them in large pots the first year at our Biodiversity garden in Linear Park Carrick-On-Shannon and last year we moved them to this site at the People's Park. We will leave them to grow here for the next year πŸ™‚βœ¨
