Do you want to learn how to create an arcade game in code, or dive into the fundamentals of coding through fun, hands-on activities?

As part of Cork County Council Library & Arts Service Summer STEM Week 2026, Kinsale Library in conjunction with Europe Direct Carrigaline will host two free workshops presented by Coding Ireland.

Scratch coding workshop is suitable for ages 8-10 years. Arcade game coding suitable for 10-16 years. Each workshop will be 1 hour.

Europe Direct Carrigaline will host the Travelling Book Exhibition this month, featuring editions of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince from all over the world 📚

To celebrate this exhibition, and Cork's pairing with France during the Irish EU Presidency, the library will host a storytime and arts & crafts session at 12pm on Saturday, 18th July ✨

Can a mirror 🪞, a jigsaw puzzle 🧩 or weighing scales ⚖️ explain how the European Union really works?

The Institute of International and European Affairs has published a blog series by former Irish Ambassador to the EU, Bobby McDonagh, offering a fresh and accessible way to understand the EU.

His work, ‘The European Union in 12 Objects’, explores Europe through symbolic objects inspired by the BBC’s History of the World in 100 Objects.

Europe Direct Carrigaline presents Shared Folktales of Europe, a free storytelling event with writer & podcaster Leeanne O’Donnell.

Leeanne will introduce children to the storytelling traditions and lore from Ireland and other EU countries, emphasising the shared themes of our folklore heritage.

This event will take place in the library on Saturday, June 20th at 11am. Suitable for 6-12 year olds, no booking required!

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome 5th class students from Educate Together Carrigaline to participate in our Shared Folktales of Europe event.

Author and podcaster, Leeanne O’Donnell introduced students to the storytelling traditions and lore from Ireland and other EU countries, emphasising the shared themes of our folklore heritage, and fostering a sense of shared identity and belonging with our EU counterparts.

After the event, students were delighted to receive their Passport to the European Union, a booklet introducing young citizens to famous people, dishes, buildings and sites from each member state. These booklets are freely available from Carrigaline Library.

Leeanne will be back to facilitate a similar event for the public in June, more information about this event to follow soon.

Europe Direct Carrigaline will host a free roundtable workshop with European Movement Ireland in Carrigaline Library at 1pm on Wednesday, 20th May 2026.

This is the second instalment in European Movements Ireland's nationwide EU Unfiltered roundtable series, and is aimed at gauging public opinion on key EU topics as Ireland prepares to host the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
