🇮🇪 Mayo Remembers Francis Hughes

​Join us as we gather to honor the memory and sacrifice of Francis Hughes on the anniversary of his passing.

​Born on February 28, 1956, Francis was a fearless solider of the Republic. We commemorate his incredible courage during the 1981 Hunger Strike, where he showed unbreakable resolve for 59 days before passing away on May 12, 1981.

​All are welcome and encouraged to attend this local commemoration as we pay our respects to his legacy.

📆 Tuesday 5th of May marks the 45th anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands MP.
📍We will gather to remember him at the Humbert Monument, Ballina at 7pm on Tuesday 5th.
"Everyone, Republican or otherwise will have their own particular part to play. No part is too great or too small, no one is too old or too young to do something." Bobby Sands prison diary 10th of March 1981.

This year is the 45th anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strikes. Mayo Sinn Féin are honoured to host the National Hunger Strike Commemoration on August 30th in Ballina.
As part of a series of events, across Mayo, we are pleased to announce that on May 7th at 8pm in The Courthouse Swinford, a former 1981 hunger striker and political prisoner, Laurence McKeown, will launch his book ' And the flowers grew up through the concrete' a prison memoir 1981-1992.

This promises to be an excellent event. All are welcome- Bigí linn.

Delegates from Castlebar Sinn Féin McEvilly O' Malley Cumann attended the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis 2026.
We were delighted that our two motions passed. Excellent speeches from Michelle O'Neill, Mary Lou McDonald, and a great contribution from our TD, Rose Conway-Walsh, on the topic of Irish Unity.
