Good progress continues on the Newport Sewerage Scheme âś…

I’m pleased that the Preliminary Business Case is on track for completion in Q3, with strong work underway on treatment options, site selection, and network design.

The recent Maritime Usage Licence from MARA is a key milestone and allows Uisce Éireann to move forward to the next stage.

Government remains committed to delivering modern wastewater infrastructure for Newport supporting sustainable growth, protecting the environment, and meeting the needs of the community.

On the 20th of June 2026 Community Garda John Monaghan of Claremorris Garda Station is partaking in a charity cycle in memory of Saoirse Duggan a 3 year old girl from Spotfield, Bekan, Claremorris who unfortunately passed away in June 2025 having bravely borne leukaemia for a period of time. The charity event has been named “Saoirse’s Sunshine Cycle”.

Saoirse was an Honorary Garda in Little Blue Heroes and was John’s little blue buddy. John has chosen to raise funds for Little Blue Heroes which is a charity An Garda Síochána is affiliated to. Little Blue Heroes supports families of children with serious illness in Ireland.

The event John is doing on the 20th of June 2026 marks the one year anniversary of Saoirse’s passing. It is an international event called “Chase the Sun”. John will start his cycle at sunrise (04.45hrs) from Belfast and he has to chase the sun for the day and arrive in Enniscrone by sunset (22.15hrs). This will be a total of 340km.

📢 Good news for Ballintubber National School 🇲🇨🔴⚪️

I’m pleased to confirm approval for an additional classroom under the Department of Education’s Additional Accommodation Scheme and has now progressed to Stage 3.

This means the project can now move to the next stage in the prioritisation progress for contract tender and construction. The new modular classroom will be located beside the existing school, with minimal disruption during works.

Congratulations to Principal Karen Serantes, the Board of Management, staff and the whole school community. I’ll continue working to ensure this important project is delivered for students and families.

Another positive step forward for Moorehall, with tenders now sought to support the next phase of development at the Nature Reserve and Walled Garden.

This landmark project will protect our natural and built heritage, enhance local amenities, and help realise Moorehall’s full potential as a flagship destination of pride for Mayo and the West.

Thanks to all involved locally and to Council staff for their diligent work on this project.

Delighted to attend the 30th anniversary celebrations of Achill Island RNLI and to join President Catherine Connolly as she unveiled a special plaque marking the occasion.

For three decades, the crew and volunteers have shown incredible skill, bravery and commitment, saving lives at sea and serving our island and coastal communities with pride alongside our Coastguards.

Great to meet Pa**ie McGinty, former Cllr Pat Kilbane, the Dooagh Pipe Band, Achill Men’s Shed, Achill Order of Malta, and current and former members of both Achill and Ballyglass RNLI.

A fitting tribute to all who have given so much over the past 30 years and thanks to Anthony McNamara Chairperson and all at Achill RNLI branch.

A wonderful afternoon in celebrating the launch of the new Sensory Garden.

This is a fantastic community project, brought to life through the hard work of Belcarra Foroige Club ,Belcarra Tidy Towns and the wider community.

It was great to meet everyone involved, alongside Cllr Cyril Burke and Cllr Ger Deere who are supporting the project through GMA funding.

The project has also received Creative Ireland funding to coincide with Cruinniú na nÓg.

Well done to all involved in creating such a special space for the community. Belcarra Ireland
