This is certainly worth the money, it will save lives. Thanks to Cllr. Aiden Fitzpatrick for pursuing this over the past few months.
The council must now request for lakes that are swimming hotspots during peak times to be assessed as designated bathing areas by the EPA. Cavan County Council should request that lifeguards are designated to at least one lake per Municipal District. It should not cost €80k if lifeguards are only needed for the hottest days during the bathing season. Too many lives have been lost recently in our lakes and the council must pursue this further to improve the safety of our lakes.
It would cost Cavan County Council €80,000 to provide lifeguard cover at popular swimming locations.
