FINTAN O'NEILL RIP

It is with great sadness that over the past few days we have learnt of the passing of one of our retired Senior Fire Officers, Fintan O'Neill. Fintan was not only a dear colleague and inspirational leader to many of our staff across Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service but also a hugely respected Fire Officer and Fire Service Instructor nationally.

His passion for the fire service, and in particular, a proud leader of Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service left a significant legacy. Fintan had a strategic foresight for the fire service and innovative ideas which set the high standards we have in Carlow, including the Fire Services Learning and Development Centre, Hacketstown and the exceptional standard of our fleet, equipment, fire stations and respect for the role we have responding to and protecting our communities.

We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family including his son Alan who followed in his fathers footsteps as a Senior Fire Officer with Carlow County Fire Service before progressing onto to the role of a Chief Fire Officer.

🚒 D/M TERRY FITZPATRICK RETIREMENT 🚒

At midnight tonight after nearly 43 years we are sorry to say goodbye to D/M Terry Fitzpatrick who reported for duty at Carlow Town Fire Station 7:30pm May 31st, 1983. Terry is a valued member of our County Fire & Rescue Service and will be sadly missed along with his experience gained over time.

Terry is the longest serving firefighter of Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service and joins the very few across the country to reach such a milestone.

A/CFO Ben Woodhouse: 'I'd like to congratulate Terry for his phenomenal 43 years of dedicated service to the people of Carlow and his colleagues within the Fire & Rescue Service family. This is a very rare achievement to reach 43 years of service in one fire station. Terry would have made such a difference to so many lives over this period of time leaving a legacy of dedicated service, commitment and professionalism. I'd like to thank Ann and his family for their support of Terry to carry out his role too and I wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement. Well done Terry we are all very proud of your service achieved!'

🔥 NINE STONES FIRE MT LEINSTER

Last night concerned members of the public called 999/112 to report large fires in the Nine Stones area of Mount Leinster.

The Bagenalstown station and crew were mobilised and had to carry out firefighting activities safely to control the spread of the fire.

We urge the public and land owners to remain vigilant during this current period of a Red Forest Fire Warning Index not to light any fires, not to use BBQs in rural areas where there is dry vegetation and extinguish smoking materials responsibly.

Under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976, burning vegetation on uncultivated land from 1st March to 31st August is illegal.

Any burning should be reported to the the Gardai and Fire Services through 999/112.

These fires damage habitats, local wildlife and draw our Emergency Services out of our urban areas to deal with them.

We thank you for your cooperation.
