Dún Aonghasa

Dún Aonghasa Impressive prehistoric stone fort on Inis Mór. The most popular visitor attraction on Inis Mor.

This massive fort is perched on 100mt high cliffs and offers commanding views of the Island. This prehistoric fort is enclosed by 3 huge dry stone walls and was further protected by “Chevaux-de-frise”, tall blocks of limestone set vertically into the ground.

Poll na bPeist;
Translated from the Irish as the ‘worm hole’, Poll na bPeist is a rectangular-shaped natural pool set at the base of the cliffs at Dún Aonghasa on Inis Mór.

The pool, also known as Serpent’s Lair, fills with seawater from beneath the cliffs, and looks more man-made than a natural wonder — make sure sea conditions are calm before planning a visit.

𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆!!
Please be extremely careful as water explosions happen after powerful waves rush into the sea cave, forcing pressure to go inland and upwards towards the surface. *You should only attempt to visit with someone who is experienced. Above all else respect the biodiversity and do not disrupt the incredible surroundings.
