Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the water — but it’s also a time to stay alert, informed, and safety-aware.
As the weather improves, more families are spending time at the pool, the beach, lakes, rivers, and other outdoor water spots. Advice from Water Safety Ireland, HSE.ie, and Gov.ie reminds us that while water can be great fun, it can also be unpredictable and dangerous if proper safety steps are not followed.
🌊 Open water brings extra risks such as rip currents, sudden depth changes, hidden hazards, and cold-water shock. That is why it is so important to swim between the flags, avoid swimming alone, know local conditions, and stay within your depth.
🏊 Pool safety matters just as much. Simple rules like no running, no diving into shallow water, checking the depth before entering, and always listening to lifeguards can make a huge difference.
👨👩👧 Children should always be closely supervised. Young children can drown in very small amounts of water, so they should never be left alone near water or in paddling pools and should always be kept within arm’s reach.
At SCD Leisure, we are proud to help families enjoy the water in a safe, supportive, and structured environment. Whether it is children’s swim lessons, PAYG public swims, teen fitness, or family-focused summer activities, safety remains at the heart of everything we do.
💙 This summer, let’s enjoy the water with confidence — and with care. Whether you are joining us for swimming lessons, a family swim, or using the summer months to build water confidence, the most important thing is to stay aware, stay prepared, and put safety first every time.
Water can be fun, refreshing, and positive for all ages — but only when safety and awareness come first.
