The wonderful Sandi Toksvig visited Inniskeen and the Patrick Kavanagh Centre back in April. We were delighted to relate Patricks story and bring Sandi around the Kavanagh Trail where she was joined by Oliver Callan.

Check out Sandi's Ireland: A Literary Journey (three part series) starting next week on More 4.

🕊️ Building Sustainable Peace in a Digitally Transformed World

Join us at the Peace Campus for a special seminar marking the International Day of Peace, hosted by Monaghan County Council in partnership with the Embassy of Finland, the John and Pat Hume Foundation and the Glencree Foundation.

As part of Monaghan County Council's EU Presidency Programme 2026, this event will bring together policymakers, diplomats, educators, community leaders and young people to explore how peacebuilding can respond to today's challenges, including conflict, misinformation, technological change and political polarisation.

🔹 Panel 1: Peacebuilding in Practice
The Northern Ireland experience, Finland's role, and the European dimension.
🔹 Panel 2: From Screens to Systems
Women shaping peace and politics in a digital world, and the barriers to participation in public life.

🎟️ Places are limited, so early booking is encouraged. Register now to be part of this important conversation on the future of peacebuilding and democracy.

📅 Booking is essential.

📢New History Bursary Announcement 📚

Monaghan County Council Cultural Services is pleased to announce this new Bursary Scheme, to support the Monaghan County Council Commemoration programme. The Bursary is supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport fund to support commemoration 2026.

Topic: Women’s Stories in County Monaghan: Voices, Experiences and Influence in the Early Years of the State

We invite proposals from suitably qualified historians, researchers, and local history practitioners for a history bursary project exploring the lives, experiences and contributions of women in County Monaghan during the formative years of the Irish State.

While political and military histories of the period have been extensively researched, the experiences of women in everyday life, community development, agriculture, education, business, politics, religion, culture, and voluntary organisations are often less visible in the historical record. This project seeks to address that imbalance by documenting and interpreting the stories of women who shaped life in County Monaghan during the period from approximately 1910 to 1950.

For more information including Guidelines https://monaghan.ie/library/decade/

Proposals to be submitted online only at https://documents.monaghancoco.ie/Forms/HistoryBursary26

Closing date: 28th August 2026
