🏫Erasmus+ Study Visits for Library Leaders📚

As part of a new Erasmus programme through the Library Development Section of the LGMA, Senior library managers from across public library services in Ireland are undertaking study visits to libraries and cultural centres across Europe.
On the 5-day mobility library leaders in the host country facilitated job shadowing, training activities and meetings relating to creative and innovative service delivery and development.

The most recent visit was to the beautiful country of Norway, with colleagues from 15 local authorities and Libraries NI. We gained valuable information from this visit, identified many similarities and differences. We learnt how practical Norway libraries are in terms of development and layout, truly maximizing space and logistics of same - the Ikea of libraries!

We thank our colleagues in the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) who are coordinating the Erasmus+ funded mobilities for public library services, for submitting the funding application and arranging the study trips.

The Erasmus+ programme is managed nationally in Ireland by Léargas.

As Ireland becomes increasingly digital, ensuring no one is left behind becomes even more important. Monaghan County Libraries have partnered with the Vodafone Foundation - through it's Hi Digital programme - to make digital skills training more accessible for older people, by introducing a tablet loan scheme.

While 91% of older people are open to learning new digital skills, 1 in 3 feel digitally excluded and 22% say they have no one to turn to when they encounter digital difficulties. The tablet loan scheme is the latest initiative to help address this, by providing library members access to ready-to-use tablets.

The scheme is available in all five Monaghan library branches, allowing library members to borrow ready-to-use tablets. Each tablet comes ready to go with internet access, the Hi Digital course, and apps like BorrowBox and RTÉ Player.

Members can loan a tablet for 3 weeks and renew twice for a further 3 weeks each. To loan a tablet just ask your librarian at your local branch.
