One of the things I always notice when travelling is how a city presents its public spaces.
Grand Central Station in New York is a wonderful example of a building created for a very practical purpose, yet designed with enormous charm, grace and attention to detail.
It is a reminder that the buildings and spaces we use every day can be functional without losing their character.
There is always something to learn when we travel — and often something that makes us look at our own towns, buildings and heritage with fresh eyes.
