Mayfield Montenotte Playground

GREAT NEWS!!!

Finally after years of trying to get a playground developed in the Mayfield/Montenotte area. We are at it's final stages of it been installed.

The Park's Department gave an update to the Local Area Committee on Monday on a playground in the Lota area.

Cork City Council has purchased play equipment and examined a location to install it. Unfortunately, that location ended up not being suitable, mainly owing to isolation and lack of passive supervision, I believe.

However, they have identified another location nearby, the disused MUGA at Ashmount. From my understanding, the proposal will be that:

The MUGA will be converted to a fenced-in children’s playground, using the play equipment in Cork City Council ownership.

The Park's Department will take responsibility for opening/closing the playground at set hours like other playgrounds.

In addition to the play equipment, a small kiddies learn-to-cycle track may also be installed inside the MUGA assuming there is space.

The Parks Department is actively working on the consultation and the intention is to bring the proposal for public consultation in the immediate period ahead.

Delighted to see our playground project has been awarded a grant of €73500. Planning and design can now begin for a new playground at village pitches. A big thank you to all the committee members and Oliver Moran for the support and work behind the scenes.

Update : We as a group have been working hard behind scenes to get a playground development in the area. We are now in discussion with the city council about developing a playground on the same site that currently houses village utd's training grounds. Our hope is that alongside village utd we can start to develop a substantial amenity park. We would like to thank Oliver Moran for all his support as he really helped us push it forward. Even though we are at early stages , it is very promising. We now need you all to help us keep our project in the forefront, please bring this to the attention of any local TD's in your area and share awareness throughout our community! WATCH THIS SPACE! How great are these gyms being installed all around the city. But once again Mayfield and Montenotte areas are left without. Just another reason to have an amenity space developed within our area. So our community can benefit like the others. This will most certainly be on our list going forward.

Wouldn't it be great if we could develop a beautiful sensory garden in line with our Playground. If local communities are able to develop projects like this. So are we!
