2026 Commercial Rate Waiver Scheme to support Vacancy, Dereliction and Town Centre First priorities initially in the towns of Kanturk, Mallow and Youghal.

By encouraging the occupation of long-term vacant commercial properties through this scheme, the Council will support the improvement in their appearance which will contribute indirectly to increased footfall for existing businesses.

Aims of the Scheme
• Encourage and support a qualifying business that might occupy vacant commercial or industrial premises.
• Facilitate opportunities for new businesses which have been established.
• Facilitate the development of new retail, office, related commercial and industrial services that will revitalise commercial centres in the County.
• Support new business creation as a means of generating new vibrancy in towns within the County.
• Demonstrate the serious commitment of the Council to contribute to economic development and regeneration across the County.

The Scheme is applicable to the use of existing rated commercial properties that have been listed as vacant for a minimum of 2 years (31st December each year).

The Scheme will be available to:
• a newly established business;
• an existing business relocating or expanding from outside the County;
• an existing business maintaining current location and expanding into a new location.
