Ireland is one of only two countries (the other being Urgenda in the Netherlands) to see a successful challenge to government climate policy in the courts. In a groundbreaking judgment in the case taken by Friends of the Irish Environment delivered on the 31st of July 2020, seven Supreme Court judges unanimously found that the 2017 National Mitigation Plan falls ‘well short’ of the specificity that would be required to comply with the 2015 Climate Act. The Court quashed the existing 2017 National Mitigation Plan, which will now require the government to formulate a new plan that covers the full period remaining to 2050.

We are delighted to be joined by Dr. Andrew Jackson on behalf of the FIE legal team for a unique opportunity to tease out the implications of this landmark judgment in our next webinar on Wednesday the 9th of September at 5pm. We will have an opportunity to hear how the case was argued, and his analysis of the Supreme Court judgment and what it means for Irish climate policy and the new climate amendment bill promised by the government within 100 days.

This event is at 5pm Irish Summer Time Wednesday, September 09, 2020

I do wonder about the people who support the greens. Do they not understand that Ireland has never actually had a real Green Party?

A real Green Party would never prop up right wing parties who put big business interests before the welfare of people. A real Green Party would not bail out banks, cut welfare, take medical cards from special needs people, advanced the neoliberalism agenda of privatisation. A real Green Party would not prop up a party that set the guards on environmental activists trying to stop the Corrib pipeline. A real Green Party would not sanction more homelessness or privatisation of healthcare, housing and water.

Yet they did all of that and more with Eamon Ryan right in the middle of it all.

Yet because they tell you that they are trying to stop climate change and this is the only way? By propping up pro big business? Don’t believe a word of it that they can somehow “force” two centre right parties to go against their entire political ethos. That kind of thinking is for the delusional.

Mudguards rarely affect the spinning of the wheel.

They are pulling your leg and using your concern for the environment for their own ends.

If their time in government with Fianna Fáil didn’t open your eyes to their treachery, I guess nothing will.

You better hope it was worth it..
