The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is Ireland's national statistical office.

The Central Statistics Office was established in 1949 as Ireland's national statistical office. We are responsible for the collection, compilation, extraction and dissemination for statistical purposes of information relating to economic, social and general activities and conditions in the Irish Republic. The CSO is also responsible for coordinating the official statistics of other public authorit

ies and for developing the statistical potential of administrative records. The CSO meets the needs of Government for quality statistical information, which is vital for the formation, implementation and monitoring of policy and programmes at national, regional and local levels in a rapidly changing economic and social environment. The CSO also serves the needs of the wider national and international community (media, researchers, students, businesses, representative organisations, the EU, international organisations, and the public generally) for impartial and relevant information on social and economic conditions. This week, as part the 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹, the CSO will host a High-Level Meeting in Dublin.
The meeting brings together the Director Generals of the European Statistics System (ESS), including all EU member states, European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states and Eurostat.

The meeting will be held as part of the Irish Presidency of the EU Council and will discuss simplification at a strategic level and burden reduction in the European Statistical System (ESS).

To celebrate the Irish Presidency, each county across Ireland has been paired with an EU member state during the Presidency period?

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... those who were born in 1998 and said at age 9 that they never liked school and never liked their teacher were more likely to misbehave in school at the age of 13.

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. At age 9, over a third of girls born in 2008 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲 compared with 27% of boys.

2. Around 60% of the children that were born in 1998 and took part in the survey had 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 by age 25.

3. 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝟓-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 (96%) had availed of the free preschool year in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) scheme by 2013 (Cohort ’08).

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... Over 80% of the 1,125 public charging locations in Ireland were located in urban areas in December 2025.

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. Of the 1,125 public electric charging locations mentioned above, this includes 𝐚 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝟑,𝟒𝟏𝟔 𝐄𝐕𝐒𝐄𝐬 or charging points and 𝟑,𝟔𝟔𝟐 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬. The number of fast chargers was 1,883, which was 55% of the total charging points. There was one charging point for every 30 EVs, and one fast charger for every 54 EVs.

2. Co. Dublin and Co. Cork 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 accounted for 30% (332) of the national charging locations, with 34% (1,152) of the total charging points (EVSEs) and 34% (636) of the total fast charging points. In contrast, Co. Leitrim had the 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 of charging locations at 0.4%, with five locations, 0.3% of charging points (11 charging points), and 0.4% of fast charger points with seven.

3. Looking at our neighbours in the 𝐄𝐔-𝟐𝟕, in May 2026, 𝟏𝟗% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬. Latvia had the highest percentage of fast chargers at 59% and the Netherlands and Malta the lowest at 4%.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... In 2025, the general health of more than one in twenty (5.5%) children aged 3 to 14 years was considered by their parents to be fair, bad, or very bad. The remaining 94.5% were in good or very good health.

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. Less than one in ten (8.9%) children were 𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 in activities typically undertaken by children of the same age.

2. Boys aged 3 to 14 years were 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲 to have received an autism diagnosis than girls of the same age in 2025

3. Excluding watching video and playing games, 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞-𝐬𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐡 (16.1%) of 13 to 14 year olds spent at least four hours daily on screen-based activities during weekends.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... In the 12 months to the end of April 2026, the population of Ireland rose by 66,900 people and stood at 5,525,600 people.

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. The number of people aged between 0 and 14 years 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 to 992,400, the first time this age bracket fell under 1 million people since 2014, while those aged 65 and over rose to 891,100 people.

2. Since 2010, the 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, with 55,000 people under the age of one year living in Ireland, a decrease of 19,900 people or 27% in 16 years.

3. There was a 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 (births minus deaths) of nearly 19,000 people in the State.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... Electricity generation from grid-scale solar farms was 1,101 GWh in 2025, a 51% increase compared with 2024.

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟 of grid-scale electricity generated in 2025 was from 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬. The highest renewable generation share in 2025 was 86% on 23 February, the lowest was 11% on 20 January, largely due to differences in wind generation.

2. 𝐆𝐚𝐬 was the largest energy source for electricity generation in 2025, responsible for 47% of generation. 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝 was the largest renewable source providing 40% of generated electricity.

3. The 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 was from 5pm to 6pm in November 2025, when average supply was 5.26 GWh. The lowest average monthly supply was between 4am and 5am in June 2025, at 3.26 GWh.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 ......... The estimated number of people in the labour force in Q2 2026 stood at almost 3.0 million, up 1.1% compared with Q2 2025?

Here are 3 facts you should know from today's release:
1. 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 - The estimated number of employees was 2,456,900 in Q2 2026, an increase of 18,300 people or 0.7% compared with Q2 2025. The estimated number of self-employed was 359,200 in Q2 2026, an increase of 2,800 people or 0.8% compared with Q2 2025.

2. The number of 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 fell by 22,500, or 2.2% to 990,600 in Q2 2026, compared with Q2 2025. At the same time, those that never worked from home rose by 43,800, or 2.4% to 1,839,400.

3. The estimated total number of 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 in Q2 2026 was 𝟖𝟗.𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, unchanged when compared with Q2 2025.
