Cork County Fire and Building Control Department provides a fire and rescue service, in order to achieve the following objectives:

Assist the public in maintaining adequate fire safety in buildings. The Department is located at four regional offices:

County Hall, Cork. (HQ)
Market Green, Midleton. Mallow Fire Station. In addition, the fire service operates from 20 fire stations around the county

🚒🔥 Fire Safety Talk in Goleen 🔥🚒

Firefighters David O’Callaghan and Kieran O’Callaghan from Schull Fire Brigade visited the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA) in Goleen on Monday evening to deliver a talk on home fire safety.

The evening covered a range of important topics, including:

🏠 Preventing fires in the home

🚨 The importance of working smoke alarms and where to install them

🔋 Testing and maintaining smoke alarms

🔥 What to do if a fire breaks out

🧯 General fire safety and first aid advice

It was a great opportunity to share practical fire safety advice, answer questions and help everyone stay safe in their homes.

🟠🌧️ STATUS ORANGE – RAIN WARNING FOR CORK 🌧️🟠

⚠️ Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange Rain Warning for Cork as Storm Austen approaches.

📅 Thursday 22nd October – Friday 23rd October
⏰ Valid from 10pm Thursday until 5am Friday

Heavy and intense rainfall is expected, with the potential for significant disruption across the county.

⚠️ Possible impacts include:
🔸 Flooding in affected areas
🔸 Very difficult travelling conditions
🔸 Disruption and delays to public transport

🚒 Cork County Fire Service is urging members of the public to take extra care and follow these important safety precautions:

✅ Avoid unnecessary journeys where possible.
✅ Never attempt to drive or walk through floodwater.
✅ Be particularly cautious on roads prone to flooding.
✅ Secure loose outdoor items and ensure drains are clear where safe to do so.
✅ Keep up to date with the latest weather warnings and local travel information.
✅ Check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours where safe.

⚠️ Remember: Never underestimate the dangers of floodwater. Turn around, don’t drown.

As Fire Safety Week 2026 comes to a close, Cork County Fire Service would like to thank everyone who followed, liked, shared and engaged with our fire safety messages throughout the week.

This year's theme, “Know Your Room. Know the Risk. Know the Person.”, reminds us that fire safety starts with understanding the risks in our homes and looking out for those around us.

As part of Fire Safety Week 2026, members of Youghal Fire Brigade were out visiting homes in the local community, carrying out FREE Home Fire Safety Visits.

During these visits, our crew met with residents, offering practical advice and helping them identify potential fire risks in their homes.

🏠 What did our crew do during the visits?

✅ Checked smoke alarms.

✅ Fitted free smoke alarms where necessary.

✅ Identified potential fire risks around the home.

✅ Provided practical advice on electrical and charging safety.

✅ Discussed cooking safety.

✅ Helped residents plan their escape in case of fire.

These visits are a great opportunity for our crews to engage with members of the community, raise fire safety awareness and help make homes safer.

🏠🔥 THE 5-MINUTE HOME FIRE SAFETY CHECK! ⏱️

It's the final day of Fire Safety Week 2026, and we're challenging everyone to take just 5 minutes to check their home for potential fire risks.

✅ 1. TEST YOUR SMOKE ALARMS
Make sure they're working. Remember to test them every week!

✅ 2. LOOK FOR FIRE HAZARDS
Check for overloaded sockets, unsafe charging, candles near combustible materials and cooking hazards.

✅ 3. CHECK YOUR ESCAPE ROUTES
Make sure hallways, doors and exits are clear and everyone knows how to get out safely.

✅ 4. THINK ABOUT OTHERS
Is there anyone in your household or community who may need additional help in the event of a fire?

✅ 5. MAKE A PLAN
Talk to your family about what to do if a fire breaks out and agree on a safe meeting place outside.

⏱️ Five minutes today could make all the difference tomorrow.
