Recently our crew from Clonakilty visited the students of Rathbarry National School for a fire safety talk.
There the students got to meet D/M John O’Regan and Firefighter Siobhan Heffernan, teaching them the importance of fire safety at home, how to test their smoke alarms, knowing their Eircode in case of emergency and having an escape plan at home.

Amber Thursday is taking place this week and we’re encouraging everyone across the community to look out for one another over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. As people travel, meet up with family and friends, and enjoy time outdoors, a little extra care can make a big difference.

With busier roads, beaches and public spaces expected, please take a few simple precautions to help keep yourselves and others safe.

πŸš— Road Safety
Drive carefully, stay alert, stick to speed limits and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

πŸ”₯ Fire Safety
Take care when using barbeques or outdoor cooking equipment. Never leave them unattended and keep them well away from buildings, fences and anything flammable.

🌊 Water Safety
Stay within your depth, avoid using inflatables in open water and always follow beach safety signs and lifeguard advice where available.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable June Bank Holiday Weekend.

🟠 HIGH FIRE RISK ALERT – CONDITION ORANGE 🟠

A Forest Fire Danger Notice is in effect from May 25th to May 29th, 2026.
Warm, dry weather and dead vegetation mean a high risk of forest fires across the country.

What You Need to Know:
🚫 Do NOT light fires or BBQs in forests or open land.
πŸ‘€ Stay vigilant and report any fire or suspicious activity to 999 or 112.
🌳 Forest owners: check firebreaks, review fire plans, and have firefighting tools ready.
πŸš— Public: Obey all safety bye-laws and never block forest access roads.

If you see a fire:
1. Call 999/112 immediately.
2. Move to a safe area, upwind of the fire.
3. Do NOT try to fight the fire yourself.

Let’s work together to protect our forests.

BE PREPARED. BE VIGILANT. STAMP OUT FOREST FIRES.
