Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, met with Mary Crilly, founding member and CEO of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork, to discuss the vital work the centre continues to do in supporting survivors across our city and county.

For over 40 years, the Sexual Violence Centre has provided free, confidential counselling and support services to those affected by sexual violence. Their dedicated team offers a lifeline to survivors and plays a crucial role in advocacy and education throughout our community.

As Mayor, I would like to advise the community of an upcoming housing scheme near Woodview in Youghal. The development is still at an early stage and will consist of 7 Age Friendly housing units.

As part of the overall development of the site, Cork County Council is proposing to make part of the land available for a Family Resource Centre, subject to securing the necessary capital funding through Tusla. Discussions have already commenced with the Family Resource Initiative in this regard.

I look forward to seeing this project progress and the positive impact it will have for the community in Youghal.

Huge congratulations to Darina Clancy and the team behind Na Lumiére GaelachaLumière Gaelacha which won the prestigious Spirit of the Festival award at the Celtic Media Festival. This remarkable documentary tells the story of the Horgan Brothers of Youghal, pioneers of photography and early cinema who helped put the town on the map in Irish film history. Cork County Council is proud to have supported this project, which so beautifully celebrates our heritage and storytelling.

I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Youghal for All Moby Dick Festival at the weekend. A wonderful celebration of our unique connection to cinematic history!

It was an honour to meet with Helen Heaphy Grainge, Chair of the Festival Committee, whose tireless work has made this event such a success. The passion and community spirit on display reminded me why Youghal holds such a special place in Cork's cultural landscape.
