Today we remember our colleague and more importantly friend Abe Farr who’s 3rd anniversary falls today.

Not a week goes by where Abe isn’t mentioned in some area or another on station or over a social gathering. He was a character, a team member and he helped and touched so many peoples lives.

Fair winds and followings seas Abe continue to protect us everytime we get that call.

****CALL OUT**** this morning at 11.55 the pagers of Crosshaven Coast Guard were activated for the third time in 48hours by MRSC Valentia to reports of a vessel on the rocks near Aghada.

Our boat with a crew of 3 made best speed to the stricken vessel and along with our colleagues in Guileen Coast Guard refloated the vessel and towed it back to the pontoon in Aghada.

Remember if you find yourself in difficulty or see someone else in difficulty immediately dial 112/999 or VHF CH16 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard it could save a life.

****CALL OUT**** MRSC Valentia activated the pagers of Crosshaven Coast Guard at 11.25 this morning in what has been a busy morning for volunteers to the assistance of a 15m yacht 2nm South of Roche’s Point with 2 persons onboard.

Upon rendezvous with the vessel Crosshaven Coast Guard transferred 2 crew to the casualty vessel to assess and assist the persons onboard. The 2 crew onboard took over the helm and brought the vessel to the Royal Cork Yacht Club under es**rt from our own boat.

The 2 persons onboard and the vessel are now safe and well alongside the marina in Crosshaven with assistance from our shore crew.

Remember if you need assistance or think you may need assistance immediately dial 112/999 or VHF CH16 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard it could save a life.

This morning our crews were on the water and land for Pieta. Ending Su***de. Beginning Hope Darkness Into Light 2026. Walkers left the carpark at The Glen and headed along the village of Crosshaven, down onto the beach at Graball Bay and back up to Camden. At the same time a flotilla left the Royal Cork Yacht Club and headed to Roches Point for a sunrise sail.

****CALL OUT**** MRSC Valentia activated the pagers of Crosshaven Coast Guard at 0205 this morning to reports of a male potentially having entered the water at Kennedy Quay in Cork City.

We mobilised a boat and shore teams to the scene but shortly before arriving the person was found safe and well having not entered the water. Members of An Garda Síochána Cork spoke with the male and all other units of the emergency services from Cork City Fire Brigade and National Ambulance Service (NAS) stood down and returned to base.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues in the volunteer rescue community in New Zealand Marine Rescue Ballina and Marine Rescue NSW.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

Think, prepare and stay safe on the water this May Bank Holiday 🚤

The Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI are appealing to everyone planning coastal visits or activities on, in, or near the water to make safety their priority

If you see somebody in trouble on the water or along the coast or think that they are in trouble, use marine VHF radio Channel 16 or dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

****EXERCISE**** last evening Wednesday 29th April our volunteers took part in a simulated exercise. For exercise purposes only a male had fallen down a hatch inside his vessel and suspected broken his lower leg. As you can see it was quite an awkward space. The casualty was assessed, treated, extracted and transported to an awaiting ambulance for further treatment and transport to hospital.

In the pictures you will see our teamwork is vital in a situation like this. A team are with the casualty assessing, a team are outside the area but there in support of the assessment team should they need it, a team set up the stretcher, a team set up the transport wheel, a team come up with an extraction method and then we come together as a whole team to execute the extraction and safe transport of the casualty.

These exercises are vital for our operational readiness and are real life simulations of previous incidents we have been tasked to. This weekend even tho a bank holiday weekend is no different for our volunteers who remain operationally ready 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year at a moments notice.

****CALL OUT**** shortly after 17.40 this evening Crosshaven Coast Guard were tasked by MRSC Valentia to the Royal Cork Yacht Club Marina where a boat which had broken its morning on the Owenabue River drifted alongside.

Our boat crew towed the vessel and secured to a new mooring.

****CALL OUT**** tasked last night at 20.30 by MRSC Valentia along with our colleagues from Carrigaline Fire & Rescue to Passage West after a call from An Garda Síochána Cork that a person was threatening to jump into the water.

As the unit assembled and got underway the person was talked down by members of An Garda Síochána and taken into their care.
