Dublin Tech Week - Community Mapping Workshop

Nobody knows a local area better than the people who live there – that’s why we want to invite residents of Dublin 8 and beyond to a community mapping workshop as part of Dublin Tech Week!

Beginning with a brief introduction to our cultural mapping project, the Dublin Cultural Audit and Map, in this interactive workshop participants will help map their local area, bringing their own experiences to help improve a vital data resource used by researchers, city council and the general public, ensuring the data is accurate and captures the living soul of an area.

Join us in Richmond Barracks on Friday 29 May at 11.00am. For more information and to sign up for the workshop, visit our website richmondbarracks.ie/whats-on

Today is World Bee Day! 🍯🐝🌸

Here at Richmond Barracks we’re delighted to have two colonies of the native Irish black bee in our beehive at the moment.

Our Eco-Gardener Polly makes sure there are plenty of spots in the garden for all kinds of bees to pollinate.

You can read more about biodiversity in our garden, including a note from Polly about what is happening in the garden at the moment. You can also find out about getting involved in our community garden or taking part in an eco-gardening workshop https://www.richmondbarracks.ie/news/eco-gardening-biodiversity-spring2026/

Ask at our reception desk for biodiversity worksheets for children where they can find lots of fun bee facts and do bee-related puzzles and colouring!

And remember, you are always welcome to come visit the garden at any time during our opening hours, Monday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, with a later opening time on Wednesdays until 8 pm.

Let’s celebrate our pollinators! 🐝

We are celebrating Drawing Day today here at Richmond Barracks with our Drawing with Nature Family Workshop.

We’ve been exploring different ways to draw and make marks with nature such as branches, reeds, leaves, grass and found objects with artist and illustrator Enagh Farrell.

The garden in Richmond Barracks is a communal green space for nature and humans to grow together.

We champion best practice in supporting biodiversity and follow the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and the Dublin City Biodiversity Action Plan.

Since 2020, Eco-Gardener Polly Rowley-Sams has looked after the garden.

Polly's role focuses on developing the biodiversity of the garden, helping people learn about eco-gardening through a year-round programme of workshops and activities, and ongoing support of the community gardeners who have plots in the Richmond Barracks garden.

Take a look at our news piece about eco-gardening and biodiversity in our garden, with a note from Polly about what is happening in the garden at the moment richmondbarracks.ie/garden-spring2026

We hope to see you in the garden soon!

Our Summer Solstice Fair is taking place in Richmond Barracks on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June from 11 am to 5 pm and we're delighted to announce that vendor applications are now open.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 5 May 2026.

The Summer Solstice Fair celebrates creativity and sustainability, with a focus on upcycling, recycling and reusing. We want to highlight how we can all be more environmentally friendly through creative and sustainable practices.

There will be free creative and cultural workshops for all ages. Seasonal crafts and products will be available to buy along with a variety of food and drink to enjoy.

We’re looking for a range of vendors that suit the theme of this fair, showcasing the summer solstice and sustainable food, products and crafts.

Here’s what a vendor from one of our previous fairs has said:

“The building itself is stunning, the event was exceptionally well organised and the loyal community really supported the event with very busy sales on both days. Great atmosphere all day with very happy children taking part in workshops also. I would love to be included in future events here.”

If you’d like to apply to be a vendor at the Summer Solstice Fair, you can see all the details at richmondbarracks.ie/news or via the link in our bio.

You can also email us at [email protected]

Ben and Oscar, both aged 12, recently took part in one of our Maker Workshops with facilitator Aidan Fitzmaurice.

The workshop was for 10 to 12 year olds, and the participants learned electronics and technology skills like soldering and creating electronic circuits to complete projects like a motorised car and an electronic dice
🎲🏎️ 😊

We run regular Maker Workshops for both children and adults as part of our Culture Connects programme. Like all of our workshops, they offer a creative space where mistakes are welcomed and exploration is encouraged!

If you would like to learn a new skill, take a look at all of our upcoming workshops on our website richmondbarracks.ie/whats-on There’s lots to choose from!
