Commissioning day has finally arrived.

After a busy day of rehearsal yesterday, the 11th Potential Officers Course and 97th Cadet Class are excited to finally reach the last hurdle before commissioned life.

Good Luck to everyone involved and a warm welcome to all family and friends of the two classes.

The 11th Potential Officers' Class are now well on the way to plant 1,200 native broadleaf trees in Ireland's Garden, Co. Wicklow.

All proceeds will go to the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (O.N.E) & CRANN - Trees for Ireland. For every €5 donated, the Potential Officers' Class will plant an oak, birch or larch tree in your name.

The 11th Potential Officers Class collected 1,200 tree saplings in preparation for their charity event.

For every €5 raised the class will plant a native Irish Broadleaf tree on your behalf.

All proceeds from this event will go to “CRANN, Trees for Ireland” and Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann ONE Veterans Charity

The 98th Cadet Class experienced their first introduction to Live Fire Tactical Training and SRAAW (Short Range Anti Armour Weapon) Shoots in the Glen of Imaal.

Pictures from last weeks 98 Cadet Class CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear) exercise.

The Cadets underwent time in a simulated CBRN Chamber and a challenging withdrawal exercise.

The 2 Platoons finished the exercise off with a friendly game of soccer.

On Friday the Cadets were involved in the school commandant’s challenge. For the senior cadets this involved an individual effort 2 mile weighted battle run, followed by a dummy drag casualty simulation. These challenges test the physical robustness and individual motivation of the cadets.

Then it was on to the stretchers where cadets worked in teams at section level. This 2 mile casevac gave an opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork while under physical duress.

This week in the Cadet School the 11th Potential Officers course and the cadets faced off in a friendly soccer match.

The cadets who were invited to play by the POs ultimately lost the game 2-1.

Well done to the POs course on the win.

Moments like this give all involved an opportunity for some well earned respite from training, and is always a friendly boost to morale.

Over the past week the students of the 11th Potential Officers’ Course completed Ex Culann’s Head. During this exercise students were tasked with finding and recovering a hostage. Students occupied sniper positions and Observation Posts throughout the Dublin Port area; simultaneously members of the class ran a tactical Headquarters whose main effort was the processing of large quantities of information into actionable intelligence.

After days of gruelling, cold and completely covert work the hostage was located and rescued.

Exercises like this challenge students to rely on the training they’ve received and processes they’ve been taught to overcome complicated and fast moving situations.
