Begin your Bloomsday celebrations in style with an uplifting evening of theatre and music. A talented cast will perform witty and moving extracts from Ulysses, Dubliners, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, revealing Joyce’s humour and humanity. Baritone Simon Morgan, accompanied by Josh Johnston, will perform Joycean songs.
Back by public demand we are delighted to have Sinéad Murphy and Darina Gallagher with us again in 2026. They will perform Songs of Joyce: a toe-tapping musical journey through sea shanties, street ballads, and music hall gems.

The annual “Casting of the Spear” ceremony was staged on Dublin Bay on Friday as Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam revived one of the capital’s oldest maritime traditions.

The tradition dates back to 1488 when then Lord Mayor, Thomas Mayler, rode on horseback to the edge of Dublin Bay and cast a spear into the sea marking the symbolic boundary of Dublin City.

Each year, the custom is re-enacted by the sitting Lord Mayor, who becomes Honorary Admiral of Dublin Port.

With the Regatta in June, Coastival, the coastal festival coming up in July & Olympic sailing coming to the coastline in August and September, make the most of your Dublin experience by venturing out to Dublin Bay.

A delight to see new kid goats on Dalkey Island.

The origins of the goats on Dalkey Island remains largely a mystery. Feral goats have inhabited the island since the early 1800s. They contribute to the wild character of the island as well as playing an important role in maintaining the ecological balance. They are covered under DLR's Conservation Plan, to be treated as a feral herd with a policy of minimal intervention, but with oversight from a fully qualified vet.

You can observe the goats, alongside rabbits, seals, the occasional porpoise or dolphin, on a visit out this way, by ferry with our friendly local ferryman from Coliemore Harbour, & come to learn why we were once known as Goat Castle https://dalkeycastle.com
