Statement by the Donegal Young Fine Gael branch on the recent treatment online of our President Killian Foley-Walsh and Social Media Officer Chloe Kennedy.
The members of the Donegal Branch of Young Fine Gael are horrified at the recent treatment of Killian and Chloe by people such as journalist Hugh O’Connell, Maria Walsh MEP, Noel Rock TD and a number of members of the National Executive of YFG. Killian and Chloe in their own personal capacity attended the Young Americans Foundation Conference last week. This was a conference that in the past, YFG members were encouraged to attend. However upon their return, a vile and calculated media attack on both of them has been orchestrated by a certain element within the Fine Gael party. These people are labeling the conference as an extreme right wing group with repressive ideology which is simply not the truth. The truth is that this conference was attended by men and women of all races and sexualities. The truth in this matter however does not suit those who are attempting to bully Killian and Chloe out of office. Those who claim to be the most tolerant are clearly showing that they are in fact the most intolerant. They are clearly setting a marker within the party that unless you dance to their beliefs you are not wanted and they will go to any lengths to get rid of you, including a vicious media attack. Killian and Chloe are two of the most decent and caring people; they are two people who would help anyone they can in whatever way they can. Donegal YFG will not stand by and watch people like within FG and YFG take part in vile attack on our fellow members and friends. We stand with our friends Killian and Chloe in this hour, and we refuse to allow them to be treated this way. Donegal YFG supports Killian Foley-Walsh and Chloe Kennedy.
