Summer Stars is the free national reading programme for children that takes place in all public libraries and online each summer. It runs from the 2nd of June - 31st of August 2026.

The Ringsend & District Historical Society, in partnership with Dublin City Council’s South East Area Community Team and with the support of Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre, is proud to present Bloomsday Villages: Ringsend & Irishtown.

Ringsend is where James Joyce and Nora Barnacle shared their very first date on 16 June 1904 — the single day setting for Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses.

📍 Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre

Start your Bloomsday celebrations with an evening of poetry and short story readings from local writers and local school students.

The event will also include the launch of the Society’s book featuring works from the 2025 entrants.

A guided tour of this splendid church, featuring its famous Harry Clarke window and other artefacts of historical significance.

Ken Harrington will present the fascinating history of the station, once known as “Refugium Pectorium” (“Refuge of Sinners”), including intriguing murder cases connected to its past.

Enjoy a special Bloomsday boat trip around Dublin Bay on board the St Brigid.

Dress in your Joycean attire and join a horse-drawn carriage procession past Strasburg Terrace to the Joyce Bench in Ringsend Park — the location of James Joyce and Nora Barnacle’s first date.

Local actors will recreate a scene from the lives of James & Nora.

Bloomsday Festival’s flagship event Readings and Songs at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, 3pm – 6pm on 16 June. John Shevlin, pictured is one of the readers of this years event.
