At our National Conference this February, we hosted a seminar where members from the LGBTQI+ community shared their concerns.

One thing is clear: we've got a long way to go in Ireland.

The Social Democrats are committed to true equality for the LGBTQIA+ community – this Pride month, and always.

If we want to see ordinary people's lives improve in Ireland, we have to be clear with people.

We need to see long term planning of how public money is raised, and how it is spent.

But FF and FG don't seem interested in anything beyond getting re-elected in the next few years.

We’re not in this for easy wins and quick fixes, we’re in it to change Ireland for the better for now, and for generations to come.

FF/FG claim the government is powerless to stop the Ireland v Israel game. This is a cop out.

In 1999, the then Fianna Fáil government prevented a Euro 2000 qualifying match between Ireland and Yugoslavia from taking place because of Serbian atrocities in Kosovo. This was despite the fact that UEFA had turned down a request from the government to cancel the game.

At the time, then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said: “It is not for a government to force a sporting decision on a body. But if the body refuses to make a decision, then we will have a decision to make”. The decision was directly attributed to the “unacceptable situation in Kosovo”.

On June 10, the Social Democrats will bring forward a Dáil motion demanding the government withdraw its support for this game.

Our spokesperson for sport, Sinéad Gibney has said, “I hope that, by, the government will have changed its position.”

According to the CSO, the cost of energy fuels increased by 32.6% in April 2026 compared with the previous month – and were up 42.3% between April 2025 and April 2026.

People are really struggling and yet the government treats the problem like it’s out of their hands.

We can make energy affordable and secure by investing in solar.

Social Democrats will keep pushing our Solar for All plan because our household bills should never be beholden to the whims of warmongers - and solar energy is the clear solution.

We need to see the government show leadership and Stop the Game.

The idea of hosting Israel, hanging its flag in our stadium and letting its anthem play out in Dublin is unconscionable years into a genocide we’ve all watched play out on our screens.

Social Democrats will be bringing a motion to the Dáil to pressure the government to stop talking from both sides of its mouth and instead, step in, use its leverage and stop this game from going ahead.

To do anything else is simply cowardice and sportswashing.

Not only is the Israeli state committing a genocide in Gaza and wholesale ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, its murderous campaign in Lebanon is intensifying.

This type of barbarism from a State cannot be ignored. We cannot have business as usual as Netanyahu’s regime commit daily atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon.

The forthcoming soccer game between Ireland and Israel in the Aviva Stadium simply cannot go ahead.

On the 10th of June, the Social Democrats are bringing forward a motion demanding the government match its words of condemnation with action, and withdraw its support for this game.

Contact your TD now, and ask that they support our motion.

There's a tendency among Irish political parties to over-promise before an election, and under-deliver when they enter government.

But the Social Democrats are committed to being straight talking and solutions focused.

If we want change in Ireland, we need to be honest about how we're going to do it.

5,604 children are now homeless.

Record evictions and record rents are driving families into crisis.

This cannot become normal.
