What are the differences between capitalism and socialism, and how does that look in practice?

Most people can name the basic difference, but let's break it down and discuss that reality looks more like a mixed economy, rather than a pure system.

Every modern economy is a mixed economy. The real political debate isn't capitalism vs. socialism. It's about where and how much government should be involved in the mix.

The US leans toward private ownership and free markets — but still regulates industries, funds infrastructure, and runs Social Security and Medicare. Scandinavian countries maintain market economies but pair them with expansive welfare systems and higher taxes. Both are mixed. They're just mixed differently.

Understanding that reframes economic policy arguments and gives you a deeper understanding of what's actually being debated here.

*This is a short-form video and cannot cover every nuance. Please refer to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Britannica, and other sources to learn more. My goal is to give a broad overview to spark interest and conversation.

Also, note, there are many different types of socialism. Op, thinking, was unable to discuss those here, but will cover them in more detail in future reels. Follow her for more.

The Department of Homeland Security is still racing to buy up and convert two-dozen-plus warehouses into mass detention centers for immigrants, some capable of holding up to 10,000 people.

According to documents released last Feb, Immigration and Customs Enforcement expects to spend $38.3 billion acquiring warehouses across the country and retrofitting them to collectively hold nearly 100,000 beds.

ICYMI - Trump must remove his name off the Kennedy Center within 14 days, as he put it there illegally. The ruling was issued on May 29th.

May 29th - the day that would have been JFK's 109th Birthday. šŸŽ‚ Sometimes it is the subtle things that mean the most.

Racial gerrymandering is more than a chapter in a playbook, it’s the Republican party’s brand. They know their policies don’t work, and instead of listening, they try to silence us to cling to power.

This ruling wont silence us. The fight for fair maps is far from over. āœŠšŸ—³ļø
