๐ŸฆŠ๐ŸฆŒ Wildlife road deaths and injuries are a growing issue across Ireland, yet many people still donโ€™t know what to do when they encounter injured wildlife on the road.

According to Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland (WRI), countries such as include wildlife awareness in driver education and have systems in place for reporting injured or dead wildlife. Drivers are taught how to respond safely and responsibly when wildlife collisions happen. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿพ

In , most drivers are never formally taught what steps to take. As a result, injured animals can be left suffering, while important information about wildlife collision hotspots is lost.

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) is calling on the Irish Government to follow Swedenโ€™s example by improving wildlife awareness, driver education, and wildlife reporting systems in Ireland. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿพ

If you come across injured wildlife:

โš ๏ธ Do not approach if it is unsafe
๐Ÿ“ Move to a safe location
๐Ÿ“ž Contact a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation service, or local vet
๐Ÿšซ Avoid handling wild animals unless advised by trained professionals

Even if an animal has sadly died, reporting sightings can still help. Wildlife road death data helps experts identify danger areas, migration routes, and accident hotspots where animals are most at risk. ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿฆก

In Ireland, dead wildlife sightings can be reported to the National Biodiversity Data Centre, helping conservation groups better understand the impact roads are having on native wildlife populations. ๐Ÿ“Š๐ŸŒ

Greater awareness, better driver education, and stronger support for wildlife rescue organisations could make a real difference โ€” for both animals and the people who share these roads. ๐Ÿ’š

Every report matters. Every life matters. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Big contrast between two councils in Ireland on animal welfare.

After the shocking sulky racing incident in Clonmel sparked heated debate, Tipperary County Council voted not to establish an Animal Welfare Committee. Meanwhile, Limerick City and County Council has now backed calls to create one. ๐Ÿ‘

According to reports from the Limerick Post, councillors in Limerick supported the idea of setting up a dedicated Animal Welfare Committee to tackle enforcement challenges, improve co-operation between agencies, and promote responsible animal ownership. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿด

Social Democrats councillor Shane Hickey-Oโ€™Mara said the number of animal welfare complaints being received is extremely high and that stronger action is needed. He called for better โ€œjoined-up thinkingโ€ between councillors, council staff, rescue groups, and frontline volunteers.

He also highlighted concerns about animal abuse and neglect, saying the city still has โ€œa very long way to goโ€ when it comes to protecting animals.

This is the kind of leadership and accountability animal welfare campaigners have been calling for. ๐Ÿ’š

Animals cannot speak for themselves โ€” communities and councils must step up.

- That's exactly why Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) was founded.

๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿ„ While there should be a gradual shift from animal-based meals to more plant-based meals in schools, itโ€™s also time for the Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) to be elected to the Seanad to help drive real change for animals, public health, and sustainability ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

A heated debate erupted in the Seanad after claims were made about Brazilian and UK beef being used in school meals ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly raised concerns after meeting EU Commissioner for Health & Animal Welfare, Oliver Vรกrhelyi, regarding Brazilian beef imports. The EU has already announced that Brazilian beef will be banned from September unless stricter antibiotic rules are met.

Mullooly warned about pre-packed meals containing imported beef entering Irish schools, hospitals, and nursing homes, saying questions around food safety should not be ignored โš ๏ธ

Fine Gael senators strongly rejected the claims, accusing him of โ€œscaremongering.โ€ Senator Linda Nelson Murray stated that extensive reviews of Irelandโ€™s hot school meals programme found no evidence of Brazilian beef being used. She also highlighted the importance of the programme for tackling child food poverty, with over 500,000 students benefiting every year ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฒ

The debate shows how important transparency, food quality, sustainability, and animal welfare are in Irelandโ€™s food system. ๐ŸŒฑ

No animal should suffer in a laboratory when modern science can do better.

In 2025, the United Kingdom announced a historic plan to phase out animal testing wherever safe and effective alternatives exist.

The roadmap aims to replace animal experiments with modern non-animal methods such as AI, organ-on-a-chip technology, 3D human tissue models, and advanced lab testing.

Under the plan, some animal tests for skin irritation, eye irritation, and skin sensitisation are expected to end by 2026.

By 2027, the UK also plans to end certain mouse tests used for Botox strength testing.

The strategy also aims to reduce the use of dogs and primates in some medicine safety studies by 2030.

Animal welfare groups welcomed the move as a major step toward a future where science no longer depends on animal suffering.

Because progress should protect life, not cause pain.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿพ BREAKING NEWS FOR ANIMALS ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿถ

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) would like to sincerely thank all the MLAs who voted in favour of the Hunting with Dogs Bill to help in Northern Ireland ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

Today marks a huge step forward for animal welfare, compassion, and progress. Cruelty should never be defended as โ€œsport,โ€ and thankfully the vast majority of MLAs agreed. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ“Š Results of the vote:
โœ… 60 MLAs voted in favour
โŒ 15 MLAs voted against

John Blair MLAโ€™s bill has now progressed to Committee Stage, bringing Northern Ireland one step closer to ending cruel fox hunting with dogs. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸฆŠ

In his closing speech, John Blair MLA said:
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ โ€œCruelty in the name of sport has no place in a modern society.โ€

We also thank those across parties who supported the bill, including members of Sinn Fรฉin and the Ulster Unionist Party, while the DUP allowed a free vote.

Sadly, we cannot yet say the same for politicians south of the border in Dรกil ร‰ireann ๐Ÿ˜” But perhaps this historic vote will set a precedent for a complete ban on fox hunting across the whole island of Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชโœจ Fingers crossed that compassion continues to grow and that all animals receive the protection they deserve. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

This is a reminder that public pressure works. Change is possible. And together, we can build a kinder Ireland for animals. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿถ๐ŸฆŠ

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ“ข Historic step for animal welfare in Europe!

The Dutch Parliament has adopted a motion calling on the government to actively push for an end to EU agricultural subsidies that indirectly support the bullfighting industry in ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ , ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท , and ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น . Lawmakers also urged wider international action to help phase out bullfighting entirely. ๐Ÿ‚โŒ

๐Ÿ‘ The motion, introduced by the Party for the Animals (), was officially accepted and sends a strong political message that public money should not be used to support animal cruelty.

Every year, more than โ‚ฌ200 million in EU agricultural subsidies is linked to industries connected to bullfighting. Many citizens across Europe believe taxpayer funds should instead support ethical and sustainable farming practices that respect animal welfare. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿพ

The Party for Animal Welfare (PAW) is now calling on the Government of Ireland (Rialtas na hร‰ireann) ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช and Irish MEPs to follow the Dutch example and support efforts to end EU funding connected to bullfighting.

This vote marks another important step in the growing movement across Europe demanding compassion, accountability, and stronger protections for animals. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‚

Together, we can help build a future where cruelty is no longer funded with public money. โœŠ๐ŸŒ

Please urgently contact your MLAs and ask them to SUPPORT this vital bill, which aims to:
โœ”๏ธ Ban hunting wild mammals with dogs
โœ”๏ธ Ban trail hunting
โœ”๏ธ Ban terrier work
โœ”๏ธ Strengthen protections for wildlife

๐Ÿ“Š The public overwhelmingly supports a ban:
๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ 76% of people in Northern Ireland want fox hunting banned (LucidTalk poll, 2024)
๐Ÿ“ 80% of NI consultation respondents said ending hunting with dogs is important to them
โœ๏ธ 92,000 people have already signed the petition:

Animal welfare organisations across Northern Ireland โ€” including the League Against Cruel Sports and Ulster SPCA โ€” are calling for this cruelty to end. ๐Ÿพ

Fox hunting causes immense suffering. Foxes are chased to exhaustion, attacked by dogs, and often brutally killed. Terriers are also sent underground to corner terrified foxes. This cruelty has no place in modern society.

Another reason to now. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿด

The discovery of a suspected severed horse leg in Rosbrien, Limerick has shocked the public and highlighted the growing animal welfare crisis in Ireland. ๐Ÿ˜ข

According to My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue, the remains were found in a field where horses are regularly kept โ€” in full view of the public. This is not an isolated incident. Every day, rescue organisations witness neglect, abandonment, cruelty and suffering. ๐Ÿšจ

โ€œHorses left to starve. Animals dumped and discarded. Welfare concerns ignored until itโ€™s too late.โ€

Martina Kenny of My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue says urgent action is needed:
โ€œCruelty does not stop at 5pm on a Friday. We need a properly resourced multi-agency response and a zero-tolerance approach to animal cruelty.โ€

Animals cannot speak for themselves โ€” we must be their voice. ๐ŸŽโœŠ

Ireland must make animal welfare a national priority NOW.
