💪💪 Great to see such diverse and powerful support out earlier today for the Iceland Workers on their 43rd consecutive day of strike action in occupying their Talbot Street store in protest of worsening conditions! 💪💪

🚨 These retail workers are 43 days into their occupation with the owner of Metron Stores Ltd, Naeem Maniar, continuing his cavalier and anti-worker attitudes regrading abandoning all previous commitments made to these workers - leaving thousands of euros of unpaid wages remaining outstanding, despite complaints having been submitted to the Workplace Relations Commission! 🚨

📢 It is undeniable that Naeem Maniar; his deputised enforcers, along with other unscrupulous Capitalist forces at play here are prioritising profit over the rights and entitlements of these retail workers but despite the countless breaches of labour legislation here in Ireland, there has been no sanction by the state against the company at all! In fact by all indication, the state has aligned its interests with the company, negligently deferring workers to wait months for adjudication from the WRC yet while seizing uncertified food products from Iceland Stores - the welfare of workers is evidently not the state's priority in this capacity as we've seen the state willing to act, but just NOT in the interest of the Iceland Workers, which is something that Ógra Shinn Féin outright condemns!! 📢

📢 Ógra Shinn Féin were out again two days ago continuing our 'State of Housing' Campaign, this time highlighting a derelict site on the North Circular Road 📢

🚨 Ógra BÁC acknowledges that 414 North Circular Road was CPO'd by Dublin City Council in 2019, following extensive damage by fire to the property however, our activists; speaking as part of the generation that were locked out of the chance to likely one day afford a home of our own, also recognise that this derelict site had been vacant and thus, wilfully neglected for a whole decade prior to 2018! 🚨

⚠️ We further note that as of January 2022, this *still* derelict site has been "currently undergoing a dilapidation & condition survey to the determine the nature and extent of the refurbishment works to bring the property back to use" with April 2023 marking the site "currently undergoing refurbishment works and (is) due for completion in quarter 1 (of) 2024." We; as members of the generation that were locked out the chance to likely one day afford a home of our own, will continue to monitor the situation; applying further pressure where needed, in order to hold the Local Authority to account and see if these promises are kept in this instance or are exposed for the empty and meaningless words that the working class are all too familiar with by now! ⚠️

✊ The people of Ireland - be them workers, students, those seeking asylum and the class of no property all alike, urgently need affordable and accessible housing, but housing built on need, NOT corporate greed! ✊

🇮🇪 Ógra Shinn Féin, alongside Dublin Bay North's Five Cumainn and comrades from all across the country remembered our patriot dead yesterday by gathering at Howth's East Pier to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the landing of the Asgard back in 1914 🇮🇪

🚩 Ógra remembers the Howth Gun-Running operation as a symbol of defiance against Imperialism in all its forms, which later went on to form the munitional bedrock of 1916 🇮🇪

🇮🇪 Yesterday, Ógra Shinn Féin, alongside our Dublin Sinn Féin/Sinn Féin Ireland team in Dublin Bay North; joined by comrades from all across the country, commemorated the 47th anniversary of Edenmore, Raheny native, Óglach Patrick Cannon (20), who along with Óglach Peter McElchar (19) of Ballybofey, Donegal did not let distance deter them, giving their lives while on active service near Castlederg, Tyrone on the Saturday of the 17th July, 1976 🇮🇪

⚠️ During Óglach Pat Cannon's funeral in Edenmore, Special Branch played an active role in disrupting the proceedings, assaulting several people including a pregnant woman! Despite the clear-cut and aggravated attempt at intimination towards working class people mourning from the Gardaí along with Free State harassment of Republicans, hundreds of ordinary people accompanied the funeral to the family plot in Ballgriffin Cemetery! ⚠️

🚩 Ógra Shinn Féin is sending our unequivocal solidarity to all 344 Iceland workers across the country who as of yesterday morning, many of whom found themselves at the epicenter of an escalated campaign against honouring previous guarantees made from the management of Iceland's Irish franchise, Metron Stores Limited.

Iceland workers across the country found their livelihoods at the mercy of an escalated campaign, recognisably an anti-worker campaign which negligently threatened these retail workers' continued livelihoods through unannounced store closures and unjust terminations without notice!

Workers from Iceland Coolock are currently fighting back against these injustices through an occupying "Sit-In" of their store, not allowing stock to be taken until their rather reasonable demands are both acknowledged and met by the company.

Ógra Shinn Féin supports workers of any sector of labour fighting back against the systematic class war being waged against them and urges everyone to show their support to the Iceland workers now in their specific hour of need! 🇮🇪

⚠️ Ógra Shinn Féin were out this afternoon in Coolock highlighting the growing disparity between the number of vacant/derelict sites currently available across the country (166,000-188,000) in comparison to the estimated proportion of people recognised as being homeless (17,700). Vacant/derelict properties like 68B St. Brendan's Park COULD be a home, but the political will for affordable housing is severely lacking - empty words and meaningless gestures don't provide housing, action does! ⚠️

🚨 Ógra is therefore calling on all able bodies to raise the visibility of these vacant/derelict sites through lobbying your Local TDs/Local Reps in order to further mount greater pressure on your Local Authority and An Bord Pleanála to act now with an upmost sense of urgency as we're continuing to witness first-hand the material conditions for working families rapidly deteriorating under the ever-increasing Housing, Cost of Living and Energy Crisis - curtsey of decades of financial failure thanks to the collaborative anti-worker attitudes of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and their cross-party colleagues from both Labour and now the Green Party! 🚨

Workers need credible action to alleviate the Housing Crisis, NOT another decade of conservative failure! 🙄
