Today Ireland has made history 🇮🇪🇵🇸

Ireland has become the first country in the world to pass a bill in their parliament prohibiting the importation of goods from the Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Ambassador Dr Wahba Abdalmajid and the embassy staff wish to thank the Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee and her team, members of the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee, and all members of the Oireachtas for their thoughtful and respectful debate, and the time and attention they have given to this bill.

We also wish to give our thanks to Irish civil society organisations, legal experts, trade unions, faith communities, activists, and citizens who have advocated for meaningful action to uphold international law.

Senator Frances Black, who brought the Occupied Territories Bill to the Seanad in 2018 spoke after the bill passed. She said “It’s the Palestinian people that we are all here for. We can’t stop this work, we have to never give up. None of us are free until the Palestinian people are free.”

The bill is expected to be signed into law by President Catherine Connolly in the coming weeks.

Today on International Day of Women in Diplomacy we honour and celebrate the valuable and influential role of women in strengthening international cooperation and advancing peace. We salute and appreciate every Palestinian woman who represents her homeland abroad, and every female diplomat, decision-maker, and minister who dedicates her efforts to exposing the crimes of the occupation and defending our people’s legitimate rights to freedom, dignity, and independence.

The funeral itself was a demonstration of love and support to the Palestinian people and in particular our people in Gaza. Yamm Mwel Al Hawa, a traditional Palestinian folk song was sang.

James Joyce and his famous novel Ulysses were brought to life yesterday in Belvedere College.

Ambassador Jilan Wahba Abdaljamid was delighted to attend and celebrate Bloomsday, named after Joyce’s character Leopold Bloom, and see the story brought to life with wonderful performances from actors, singers, and The Ramparts Choir.

We would like to thank The James Joyce Centre for the opportunity to celebrate this great Irish author in the beautiful and historic Belvedere College, where James Joyce was educated.
