I'd say I'm not the only one with a garden full of greenflies/aphids. They seem to particularly like the Columbine. I decided to see what type of close up I could get bearing in mind I dont own the sort of specialist lens usually used for this sort of Macro work.

With the recent good weather, I've been out and about, mostly at Corkagh, taking lots of photos. This is just a simple image of a very common flower at the park throughout the summer: Vetch. Its a member of the Pea family apparently. When I look at this photo it just makes me think of lazy summer afternoons strolling through our beautiful park.

I shared some photos of the Common Blue Damselfly taken over at the fishing lakes on the Friends of Corkagh page. Here are a few more. Of course the warm weather means they all emerge at the same time but for the past one to two years they will have been living unnoticed as nymphs in the shallow water at the edges of the lakes. They live for 2 - 4 weeks depending on weather conditions.

There are a pair of Wagtails at the Mill pond next to the fishing lakes and I got some reasonable photos on Thursday. Beautiful little birds and I dont know why they are known as Grey Wagtails when their most notable feature is their yellow breast.

A couple of days ago I noticed this little Bluetit kept flying at a mirror in the garden. Needless to say the mirror is now fully covered so the little guy doesn't waste any more energy trying to fight with himself!!

The camera can be peculiar: you see an appealing scene, you take the photo, and it doesnt look as nice as to the naked eye. Then you take a photo of something very ordinary, like these Ivy berries and WOW!

The Chiffchaffs have arrived at Corkagh for the summer. When you think how far these small birds have to fly just to get here, the ones we hear singing 'chiff chaff chiff chaff' have travelled from the Mediterranean and even further. Anyway I got a few photos of one near the wetlands area last weekend.

about 4 weeks ago I shared some images of a robin collecting nesting material in the garden and on Wednesday at least one of the babies fledged (left the nest). I came upon him by accident, hiding at the bottom of the garden and I got this shot with my zoom lens so I wasn't too close. It was getting dark but the little guy remained on the ground, hopping between logs and plants but mostly staying hidden. Apparently fledgling robins are unable to fly or feed themselves for the first few days and so its common for them to stay on the ground. There are cats that prowl around the garden but thankfully he's still there this morning, as daddy Robin keeps heading in that direction. Anyway, I hope this little one makes it as almost half of baby robins dont make it past the first few weeks.
First shot the baby is top right. The second image was taken from my kitchen window: the baby had ventured out from cover... it was almost dark and you could hardly see anything (the photo has been cropped and brightened up considerably).

These plants caught my eye at Corkagh. To me they seemed like something from the age of the Dinosaurs and indeed they are a very ancient plant called Horsetails. These are the spore stems and by summer the plant will look very different. A very hard plant to get rid of if they take up residence in your garden but apparently used in a variety of herbal remedies.
