Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome participants from the Una Europa One Health Summer School 2026 to the FSAI.

The Summer School brings together doctoral researchers from across the Una Europa alliance at University College Dublin for an immersive learning experience focused on the One Health approach.

Our colleagues shared insights on One Health terminology, zoonoses, emerging risks, risk communication, and practical examples of how One Health principles are applied in food safety. The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session and discussion.

Thank you to all the participants for their enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions. We wish you continued success in your research and studies.

Yesterday, the FSAI was delighted to welcome a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and associated agencies as part of their study tour to Ireland.

The study visit was organised by Sustainable Food Systems Ireland (SFSI) as part of the Ireland-Vietnam Agrifood Partnership. To support the visit, two interactive webinars were delivered in advance, providing background on the Irish official control system and the role of science in food safety.

During the delegation’s time in FSAI, presentations and discussions continued, offering further insight into Ireland’s official control system and risk assessments in a regulatory context.

📢❓Does your job involve the labelling of food/food supplements?

The FSAI are seeking feedback from food business operators on draft guidance intended to support food businesses in understanding and applying the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims, specifically in relation to the use of general, non specific health claims. Its aim is to outline how such claims can be used on food products in compliance with regulations.

This guidance was developed in collaboration with representation from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), and the National Environmental Health Service (NEHS) of the Health Service Executive (HSE).

This consultation is open to food business operators only. Please ensure to read the guidance before completing the survey - see link in bio.

Closing date extended to 30 June 2026.

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today welcomes the introduction of new EU labelling rules for honey, which came into effect on 14 June 2026.

Under the new rules, all countries of origin for blended honey must be clearly indicated on the label, in descending order of weight, along with the percentage contribution of each country.

Honey on the market on or before 14 June 2026 will continue to be on the market until stock runs out.

To mark World Food Safety Day, we asked members of our Scientific Committee how this year's theme, "From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere," connects to their work.

Dr Declan Bolton, Scientific Committee Member, Principal Research Officer in the Food Safety Department at Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, and Adjunct Professor in the School of Veterinary Medicine at University College Dublin, highlights the importance of translating scientific evidence into practical solutions that reduce the burden of foodborne illness.
